Briata admired the pattern she was working on. It was something she had drawn up herself, which hadn't been part of the assignment but she had done it anyway. The assignment had said to pick a pattern, but she had just drawn up a new one. They were supposed to use specific stitches taught in the class. She was finding it quite easy. While a couple of the stitches were new to her, Briata had been embroidering so long that she caught on quickly. It was looking quite nice, if she did say so herself. The girl smiled and fingered the smooth thread and then bent her head over to resume where she left off.
Marza grinned as she walked into the weaver classroom. She had come to see Korvin, one of the Journeyman weavers, and instead had discovered one of the Weyr's new additions bent over her embroidery. The young greenrider scuffed the floor a little as she approached the young lady and looked over Briata's shoulder at the work.
"That's a new pattern isn't it?" Marza smiled in greeting.
"Yes." Briata smiled to the woman, greenrider by her knots. She shifted a bit so that the work was a bit easier to see. "I drew it last night and am working on it for an assignment." Once again Briata fingered the thread. She loved the way it felt against fabric, the smooth lines, the rougher spots where she changed technique and added knots so it would bring out more texture. "It's for an assignment."
"It's beautiful. I'd love to make something like that, but I have to admit I'm better with grapes." Marza grinned again at Briata, "Oh! I'm Marza, rider of green Creaith."
"Well met Marza." Briata paused in her work to shake the rider's hand. "What brings you here?"
"Actually, " the green rider gestured towards the door exiting the classroom, "Journeyman Korvin was going to join me for a glass of Arima's latest concoction and I was on my way to find him." She cocked her head at the student, "Perhaps you'd like to join us?"
"Master Arima? She's come up with a new wine?" Oh that could be interesting. Well, she had some time before she would meet B'lamick. Maybe she could take some back to him if it was good. "That sounds splendid."
"Oh yes," Marza grinned with pride, "She often comes up with new wines .. this one is supposed to have an interesting blend of spices and sweetners." She looked around, "Let me grab Korvin and we can head over to Arima's quarters."
"All right." It would help pass the time until B'lamick was free, and Briata could still work on her embroidery and socialise at the same time. The young woman gathered her things into the basket she had used to carry them. She was prepared to leave by the time Marza returned, a young man behind her. Briata nodded politely.
Linking an arm through Korvin's and gesturing for Briata to walk with them, Marza grinned and half-skipped towards her grandmother's quarters.
