J'darin

J'darin

E'naer has just heard who the new Weyrlingmaster was going to be. His mind twirrled. J'darin! He knew him, if not closely, then at least in some level. The good thing was that he had been Weyrlingmaster before. The greenrider shrugged his shoulders in his thoughts. Oh well, he usually got along fine with everyone, so why would it be any harder to work with him than some other bronzerider?

J'darin's mind was still numb with the entire transfer and returning to Dragonsfall. In addition to the move, he was .. Weyrlingmaster. While it was wonderful to be in charge of Weyrlings again, he was vaguely nervous. The scars on his arm and leg itched in memory. What if he messed up? T'mahl was trusting him so much! And here, there was no Second, just a Third. Though from all reports, E'naer was a magnificient Third and had held together by himself since T'mahl had become Weyrleader.

With that in mind, and so much more, he went hunting E'naer in his office, the morning after he arrived, thinking to introduce himself right off.

His prejudice against green and blueriders had mostly vanished in the fires and storms of the last few turns at Dolphin Cove, and besides, Wingthird was where good greenriders could go if they _were_ good. This was not too difficult for him. So far..

E'naer was comming from another direction and they met at his door. "Hi there, looking for me?" he asked with friendly tone.

"Ahh! E'naer, yes? It seems I was knocking on an unoccupied office." A smile curved slightly and he nodded. "I was, indeed. I'm J'darin... the new Weyrlingmaster. Got time for a chat?"

"Well met and welcome. I've been expecting you," The greenrider replied, with genuine warmth in his voice and smile. He gestured the bronzerider to enter the office. "I was called to weyrling barracks to settle down a small argument between two weyrlings."

J'darin chuckled at that and followed E'naer into the office. "Ahh weyrling arguments. So much fun..." He took a seat near E'naer's desk. "It must be hard, E'naer, tending to all the weyrling's needs yourself... " He shook his head at the thought, impressed in spite of himself.

"It is," E'naer admitted. "There is times when my authority just isn't enough."

"Understandable, that. There will always be those weyrlings who deal ..differently... with the 'Third, or the 'Second, or the Weyrlingmaster. By all accounts, though, you've done well. I only hope I can do as well as you." He smiled at E'naer, beginning to relax a little. Much nicer to sit and talk. "I Impressed here, you know." He was silent a moment, remembering as he always did. "How long have you been the 'Third? A few turns? It seems we might have met, though my greenrider friends tend to be the female type!" He added with a laugh.

E'naer smiled and chuckled. " About two turns, and I've stopped counting how many clutches in that time," he answered the question.

J'darin returned the smile and nodded. "Well, I am happy to meet you formally E'naer, and I think we'll work together fine. I was Weyrlingmaster Second then Weyrlingmaster at Dolphin Cove, but Hasaarth and I Impressed here on Dragonsfall sands. I think we are both looking forward to being here again, if not the _cold_. Hasaarth says he doesn't mind the cold, but he wouldn't would he? The great bronze idiot."

"They have much thicker hides than us. Sometimes I envy their obliviousness to the weather," E'naer said. "I'm also a dragonhealer, and I do to shifts in dragoninfirmary, when my other duties permits. I usually also deal with all the healt issues young dragonet's may have," The Third told him.

J'darin laughed in his mind. Of course he knew dragons had thicker hides than people. It was just funny the way E'naer said it, like he wouldn't know. Not offended, more amused, he blinked and looked again at the greenrider. "My, you must be a busy fellow, E'naer. I expect you might be pleased to have a hand to help out, just to give you some time to be a dragonhealer."

He glanced across the desk, thoughtfully. "Where shall we start? I'm thinking there is a current class of Weyrlings, and I'm betting they'll be a clutch soon?"

"Yes and yes. Onnyth should have Mating flight soon," E'naer said and pulled out a hide from the pile in his desk. "Here is the list of current weyrlings. I've made some notes about every pair. A little bit of who they are and what to expect. I've also tried to spot those who bear closer watching." He handed the list to the Weyrlingmaster.

J'darin read the list carefully, taking his time. As he read, his mind began to reform into the mind of a Weyrlingmaster and he smiled.

Some of the pieces were falling into place.

He tapped one on the "just graduated" list. "Trouble with J'nev?"

"Oh, yes," the green rider rolled his eyes.

Interested, J'darin cocked his head. "You handled him well, and graduated him anyway. Nice job, E'naer." He paused and set the hides aside. "I'll check in on the newly graduated ones today, and then you and I can go and talk to the current class in a candlemark or so. I want to sit it on all the classes today, and then we'll get back together at the end of the day and split them among us. How does that sound? I want to make this as easy as possible."

Sounds good to me," E'naer replied.
