Baila dismounted the dragon and held out her hand to the young boy who had been a passenger. He refused her help and hopped down from the green with a nimbleness that only those of similar youth possessed. Baila smiled at her son and drew him inside. They stopped just before the curtain that separated the dragon's ledge from the rest of the weyr. "G'nir, we're here."
"Get in," the bronzerider replied and came to meet them. "Baila, how have you been? Grilec, nice to see you."
"Hey Dad." Grilec managed. He glanced at his mother who nodded, then ducked into the weyr proper. Baila watched until he disappeared, the looked up at her former lover. "I hope you'll actually discipline this time."
"When I didn't? I'm trying to teach him proper manners and respectful behaviour, while you let him run around free," G'nir retorted back.
"Excuse me?" Baila's eyes flashed in anger. "I do no such thing! He has a schedule, duties to fulfill and a foster mother who keeps him in line." How _dare_ he insinuate that she let him run about like a wild boy! "But every time he comes home it's, 'Dad let me do this' and 'Dad didn't say I couldn't.' and he talks back, not just to me but to the Harpers. Teach him manners? Respectful behaviour? It's just the opposite when he comes here!"
"I find that hard to believe," G'nir said and crossed his arms. He was treating Grilec as he been treated as child. Yes, he had privileges that other people didn't had, but people also expected different things from him. Nobody had expected him to clean his room, but they had expected him to know how to dance and address an elderly Lady of Blood correctly.
"Don't believe me?" Baila rolled her eyes. Just like G'nir to think he wasn't at fault. "Just ask Jayla. She'll tell you all about what she has to deal with and what she hears from that boy after he's been here."
"We are not getting anywhere with this," G'nir said with a tired sigh. They argued about it every time they met and it never changed anything.
"No, and we never will." Baila turned upon her heel and headed back to the ledge. The sooner she got away, the better. She was going to have a time with her boy once they got back to their home Weyr, but hopefully there wouldn't be permanent damage. The thought about refusing to bring him back crossed her mind. Maybe she should start making excuses for why he couldn't come. It might be easier.
"When exactly you will come to pick him up? Or do you want be to bring him?" G'nir asked before she could reach her dragon.
"Tomorrow evening after dinner, as usual." It was always the same, why did he always have to ask? Baila sighed as she mounted her dragon. She really wished she didn't have to make these trips. She and G'nir just did not get along and Grilec always misbehaved after a trip to see his father. "Have fun Grilec!" She called out before she mounted her dragon and left without a word of goodbye to G'nir.
"Clear skies, Baila," G'nir said, but his voice was too quiet to carry over to her.
