Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 1 of Turn 5
"Hey there, sorry I'm late." B'lamick found Tey already down at the Weyrlake with Isleth, her green obviously already fed since Tey was starting to bathe her.
"That's all right. You didn't say you'd be here 'specially." But it was odd, Tey thought. He usually was here when she was giving Isleth her big wash for the sevenday. "Did you stop for an extra serving of that dessert?"
B'lamick shrugged. "No, I just got distracted. Got talking and forgot the time."
"Gossiping with the young bronze and brownriders?" she teased. There was a whole crowd of them - young, unattached, very full of themselves. They spent much of their free time together but B'lamick wasn't usually one of the group.
"No, with Briata." B'lamick hadn't spoken _alot_ about her, but enough that Tey would know who he was referring to.
"Huh. Doesn't she have T'vanen to play with?" Tey asked.
B'lamick shrugged again, he hadn't seen the bronzerider around much now that he thought about it. "Why, jealous?" it was a not serious tease. Tey would have to care in order to be jealous.
The greenrider shrugged. Not jealous. Certainly _not_. But it was a little disappointing for her friend to abandon things they regularly did together in favour of this newcomer to the Weyr. "Of course not," she said after a pause.
"I did say I was sorry." he reminded her. Of course she wasn't jealous. He was _always_ jealous when he found her spending time with someone else, but he'd quit letting her know as it only annoyed her. If he thought it _would_ make her jealous maybe he'd bring Briata up more often, but it was pointless, so why bother.
"So you did." Tey handed him a long-handled brush and indicated the areas of green hide that she hadn't scrubbed. "You see a lot of her, don't you?"
"She's pretty fun." B'lamick admitted. He hadn't really thought about it much, but he did enjoy spending time with her when he wasn't with Tey. "And she doesn't know alot of people so she comes to me or T'vanen when she needs help with something."
"Huh," Tey said again, concentrating on her scrubbing for a while. Then, "Is she very 'Lady Holder' like?"
B'lamick didn't really know what Lady Holder's were supposed to be like since he grew up at the Healer Hall. "She's pretty normal. I could introduce you to her if you want. I bet you two would be friends."
Tey wasn't sure about that. "I suppose so. Do you think she'll Impress?"
"She doesn't want to." B'lamick said. "I told her I'd take her out of the Weyr for the hatching just in case some green got it in her mind to check out the stands."
"You ... You're going to do _what_?" Tey couldn't help but stop her scrubbing and stare at the young bronzerider. "But the Weyrwoman ... Oh, I don't think that's such a good idea."
"Tey, she doesn't want to Impress." B'lamick explained. "With her being able to hear all the dragons, I don't think she'd stand a chance if she was near the grounds, maybe not if she was in the Weyr at all."
"A chance? She'd have the very best chance," Tey said, puzzled.
B'lamick shook his head, "No, I mean, she wouldn't stand a chance of _not_ Impressing. She doesn't want to Impress and I'm pretty sure she would. She gets these headaches because of the dragons... if she Impressed, she'd be tied to a Weyr forever and never get away from the voices."
Tey wondered what it would be like to hear more than one dragon. Strange, she supposed, and noisy. She glanced around to the tops of the cliffs where dragons were sunning themselves in their favourite spots. "Well ... Perhaps it would be better if she had a dragon of her own."
"That's what I thought, but she's pretty stubborn about it. She even told the Weyrwoman no." He replied.
Tey grinned. "Really?" She was impressed in spite of herself. She didn't _dislike_ the former Lady Warder, but she didn't always think as highly of her as B'lamick did.
"Yeah," B'lamick said. "So I figured that if she could stand up to the Weyrwoman, then the least I could do was give her a lift out of here for a bit. Maybe after she's been here awhile she'll change her mind and want to stand at the next hatching."
"I should hope so. If she could just get over the headaches she'd be quite an asset during 'Fall." Tey shrugged and resumed scrubbing at her lifemate's green hide. "Perhaps they wouldn't even want her to fly with the Wings."
B'lamick thought on that a moment, thinking about how she could coordinate from the ground. "I wonder if they'd let her help now? Maybe work with the healers or the weyrlingstaff or something like that?"
"Well, it seems silly to waste a talent like that - but she's going to be no use if all she does is gets headaches from the dragon-talk." Tey could hope, couldn't she?
A wave that Latarth had sent his way lapped up against B'lamick's thighs and he grinned. Latarth had been waiting patiently for his scrubbing, but he was through and wanted attention. "I guess we'll just have to see how things progress then, won't we?"
