Briata hadn't expected to see B'lamick while she was working. She especially hadn't expected to see him with a small lumpy bag in his hands. She did smile at him, however, when she realised he was standing over her. "Well hello!" The girl lowered her mending onto her lap. "You surprised me."
"I didn't mean to." he assured her. "I've a small favor to ask is all."
"It's okay. What favour?" Briata couldn't fathom what she would be able to do for B'lamick, but she was willing.
B'lamick held up the bag. "I've got some things that need mended. Socks mostly, though there is a torn shirt and pants in here as well. I'm horrible at sewing anything other than people, so I thought you might be able to help me out."
"Certainly." B'lamick simply could have sent the socks in for mending with the laundry, but Briata wasn't going to deny him his request. I can work on them as soon as my pile is done." It was already pretty close to being done, only a shirt and two pairs of pants left and both of those only needed minor repairs. Briata eyed the bag, then asked, "How long have you gone without getting any mended? Do you have any socks left you can wear?"
"The last time I sent them in, they all got lost." He explained as he held the bag protectively. "I like these, they're warm during Fall and I dont' want them to disappear too."
"Well I'll be sure not to loose them." Briata held out her hand to take the bag once he offered it. "And I'll return them to you tonight if I'm able to finish. If not, hopefully tomorrow."
He waved it off. "No hurry, I've a couple pairs that are still good back in my weyr."
"Which won't last you long. That's one for today and one for tomorrow." Briata pointed out. "I'll have them for you soon. How are you doing besides dealing with holey socks?"
"Doing fine." He didn't need to mention that Latarth had chased again that morning and lost. The frantic energy that had been driving through him is what prompted this, among other things he'd been putting off for too long.
She didn't know what, but she sensed something. Briata tilted her head to the side and regarded him before asking, "Are you sure?"
"Yep, how about you?" B'lamick replied quickly. "Any more headaches?"
A little too quick with the answer, but it was obvious he wasn't going to talk about anything, so Briata didn't push. "Not headaches. My head still feels...full so to speak. If I let my guard down, it's easy to have the rush of voices. It's getting better though, slowly but surely."
"Well, just let me know if you need to get away again." B'lamick replied easily. "I know lots of different places I could take you."
"I appreciate the offer, thank you." Briata's expression turned thoughtful before asked, "What sort of places?" She was curious. While Briata had traveled to Garnet Valley on occasion, more so in recent turns, she'd never really been anywhere else. What were other places like? Garnet Valley was quite different from some of the others, she had been told.
B'lamick thought a moment, "Well, anywhere on Pern. I could take you North, Istan beaches, High Reaches mountains. I've been to the Western Continent before too, though there isn't anything real special about that place. There's any hundred islands littered along Dolphin Cove's coast that are beautiful. Just take your pick."
"My father is from the North." The girl mused. What was it like up there? Briata's father had told her stories, but they had never been. She could tell he missed certain aspects of it, though he'd gotten the opportunity to hold in the South so wouldn't give that up. "I have aunts, uncles, and cousins up there - around Telgar."
"I know there too." he assured her.
"What's it like?" Bridinar had mentioned things on occasion, but not too often. Briata had honestly never thought to pry for more information. She had been happy in the South with her desire to marry. Travel wasn't easy unless one was a dragonrider, but now she had dragonrider friends. Perhaps it would be nice to travel occasionally.
"Telgar?" B'lamick asked, surprised. Everyone knew about the major Holds, so surely that wasn't what she was referring. "The plains are nice, more brown than what we usually see around here. They have alot of mountains in the region too, colder than here, sort of like Dragonsfall I suppose."
"Maybe...would you be willing to take me there some time? You could show me around." Briata didn't mind the cold, though she didn't think she'd ever been anywhere where it got _really_ cold. She did mind the cold of /between/ so maybe she shouldn't have thought that so quickly.
B'lamick grinned. It was sort of fun taking her all over the place. Much better than normal transport duty. "Of course. Next restday the weather up there seems nice I'll let you know."
"Thank you B'lamick. You're very sweet." And it would be nice to see things other than the few places in the South, to go back to where Briata's father had come from. "I should probably get back to work. I'll deliver these as soon as they are finished."
