Characters: B'lamick, Tey
Description: B'lamick doesn't like that Tey's green is flown by another, and that she doesn't mind.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 1 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: K'tu (Adoptable!)
B'lamick was sulking and he knew it. He'd watched Tey all day during
drills and at lunch and she acted like everything was the same as
always. She hadn't even _mentioned_ the flight. The flight that he'd
lost. Isleth was the only green B'lamick ever asked Latarth to chase. He
wanted to win Tey's flight so much, not only for himself, but for her.
He didn't like that she went off with random men, even if it didn't seem
to bother her. When Isleth had risen two days ago, B'lamick was sure
Latarth would win. The bronze had been chasing more and more often, and
he'd come so close in the past. K'tu's brown had maneuvered in at the
last second though this time and claimed Isleth instead. B'lamick hated
watching Tey walk off with him, hated him for getting to be with her,
hated him even more when he saw them both in drills that morning acting
like nothing had even occurred between them. Sex shouldn't be random,
shouldn't be just a pass time like sandball or hoops.
"Hey," Tey said, when she caught B'lamick glancing at her again. "Have
I still got my lunch on my face or something?" she asked. The young
bronzerider was moody about something and while she wasn't going to push
him into telling her if he didn't want to tell her, but it was worth
giving him an opportunity if he wanted to take it.
"No." He replied automatically to her question, his tone annoyed, then
after a moment added in a softer tone. "Sorry. No, you're fine. I was
just thinking about stuff."
"What sort of stuff?"
B'lamick shrugged. What was he supposed to say? He'd tried talking to
her about her flights before and she'd thought he was silly to even
think about it. She didn't understand that sex meant something to him,
or that it hurt him when the one he wanted to experience it with shared
herself with someone else. "Just, drills, Threadfall, that sort of thing."
Tey's dark eyes studied him for a long moment. "Not worrying yourself
into trouble, are you?" she asked with concern. Some people did - she
was sure of it. Thought about things too much and then found that they
couldn't cope. "I don't want anything to happen to you, you know."
He smiled. If only she cared for reasons more than friendship. He
looked down to collect himself as he felt his smile turn forced and
shook his head before raising it up again. "I've got one of the best
records, only one wingtip. Latarth and I are safe fliers. You of
course seem to get into trouble without Thread being a factor at all."
He didn't mean to bring up the recent incident, but he wanted to deflect
the discussion away from himself.
"Oh, ha ha. If it hadn't been for some idiot _male_ rider ..." She
sighed. Nobody was going to let her forget that incident, not as long
as she lived.
"Don't write off the entire male species just because of some reject
transfer." B'lamick defended with a grin.
"Of course not. You and Latarth wouldn't be so careless. He seems to
like Isleth."
B'lamick snorted, despite himself he let slip, "She doesn't seem to like
him too much."
Tey frowned. "She _does_. Why would you think she doesn't? They're
together nearly as often as we are, and really dragons are usually more
than happy to be solitary."
"If she liked him, she would have chose him for her mate," he stated as
fact.
"Really?" Tey was surprised by the statement, especially since it
purported to be able Isleth. "I don't think she's at all interested in
who catches her, to be honest. Just as long as somebody does."
He gave a snort of disgust. "That's ridiculous, she's got to have a
favorite. She can't be _that_ vapid."
"Vapid?" Tey laughed. "She's a nearly uncontrollable, lust-driven
monster when she rises. _Vapid_ indeed!"
B'lamick looked down and took a deep breath. There was no point in
discussing this. She just didn't understand where he was coming from.
Maybe he didn't understand her point either, but that wasn't really
something he could change. "Let's just drop it okay?"
"Well, all right. But please don't say she doesn't like Latarth because
she _does_."
He put a smile on his face. "Then I won't. We'd better get going,
U'das is going to wonder where we wandered off to."
"And I'm still in nobody's good books after that little 'incident'," she
agreed.
He shrugged and placed his hand on the small of her back as he ushered
her forward. "Oh I don't know, I think several of us enjoyed a certain
somebody getting what he'd had coming."
"Oh?" Tey smile positively beamed. "Well then it was all worth it."
B'lamick couldn't help but grin in return, her face all lit up was
wonderful to behold. "You thought it was worth it before."
"I don't like regrets," she admitted. "Nobody should."
