Characters: K'mai, J'ren
Description: J'ren compliments K'mai on a job well done.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 10 of Turn 5
"K'mai." J'ren pulled his helmet off his head as he called out to the
bluerider. He scratched the back of his neck, glad to be free, then
took several long strides to catch up with the wingrider.
"Sir?" K'mai turned and tucked his helmet under his arm.
"A word." J'ren stopped and smiled at K'mai. "Good job today in the
air. How many clumps did you char?"
K'mai made a face. "I lost count when a weyrling dropped our firestone
sack." The youngster had to race back to the Weyr for another. With
Sebeth running low on flame, K'mai had been too nervous to remember
the count.
"One almost got you." The dragon and rider had been quick to react,
but J'ren had seen how close they had come out of the corner of his
eye. "Swift thinking there."
"Thanks. We made it through unscathed, and that's what matters."
"Yes." J'ren nodded. K'mai was right, "I simply wanted to tell you
'good job', today."
"Thank you." It was nice to be pulled aside for praise once in a while.
"I shall leave you to get cleaned up and will see you on the morrow
for drills." The more they worked, the better they became, the less
Thread got through and fewer people got hurt. J'ren wished things had
been as they had a few turns prior, but Thread had returned and they
had to deal with it.
"See you tomorrow, sir." Sebeth was impatient to have his riding
straps off. The blue was hungry.
J'ren nodded and watched K'mai walk off. It was good to see the
riders in his wing doing well. He walked back to his own lifemate and
patted the bronzed hide in a loving fashion before remounting to make
their way back to their own weyr.
