Just a Sprain

Writers: Emma, Rochelle
Date Posted: 30th July 2009

Characters: M'van, R'syl
Description: R'syl calls on M'van to look at an injured weyrling.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 19 of Turn 5

"I think it's just a light sprain." R'syl murmured to M'van as they crossed
the short distance to the weyrling pair sitting outside the barracks. The
young green was whimpering a little, her tail curled close to her body as
she nursed the favored appendage, and her rider was standing by her head to
reassure her.

"I'll just check that for you, but it looks like you are right, the way
she's holding herself," M'van told the Weyrlingmaster.

R'syl nodded. "Thanks." He told the bluerider before moving up to the young
green's head to help her rider. This particular green tended toward panic
and being generally highstrung when hurt, although her rider was a steady
kid. **Usaeth, make sure Opereth understands that she needs to do what M'van says, even if it hurts. He's trying to help.**

}:Reassure her, will you?:{ asked M'van of his blue.

**Opereth,** Kiloth told the green. **My rider will help you and he will not hurt you. Will you let him look at you and examine you?**

R'syl quietly dismissed the assistant and went to stand beside the young
rider, relieved to see the young green cooperating with M'van. Her eyes were whirling with agitated colors, but her rider was stroking her head and
speaking earnestly to her and it seemed to be keeping her calm as M'van
examined the injured tail.

It didn't take much for M'van to confirm R'syl's thoughts with a diagnosis
of a mild sprain. M'van spoke to both R'syl and the weyrling rider. "No
strenuous exercise. Light duties only as otherwise it isn't going to heal up properly. I'll want to see you again in three days just to check on it and to make sure that she's recovering."

The weyrling nodded, and R'syl took a mental note of the instructions. He
suppressed a sigh. The pair were going to fall behind the rest of the class
while on light duty, but hopefully they would catch up quickly.

"I'll make sure M'galec and the assistants are aware of it." R'syl promised
M'van before turning a stern view on the weyrling pair. "And I think these
two will know better than to try to push themselves again until they're
ready. Right?"

"Right!" The weyrling squeaked, swallowing hard and nodding emphatically.

"Just keep her calm, and make sure she doesn't overexert her self until
it's healed. If you have any concerns at all, ask a dragonhealer to check
her over. Is that understood?" M'van told the weyrling.

"Mmhmm." The weyrling continued nodding, and R'syl wondered for a moment if
his head was attached to a hinge. "Yes sir. Thank you."

"Good," M'van turned back to R'syl. "Keep an eye on them will you."

"Of course." R'syl gave a light chuckle. "Thanks, M'van."

"Not a problem. That's what I have these knots for."
