K'reyel

K'reyel

"Thank you for coming over," K'reyel said as the Weyrlingmaster's
'second took the seat across from him.

"Of course, sir," the bronzerider nodded, hoping this wouldn't take
long. He had another surgery scheduled for that evening and could not
be late. "Here is the progress reports on the weyrlings that you had
asked for."

K'reyel scanned the hides briefly. "How are they doing?"

"They could always do better," M'galec admited with a heavy sigh. "All
in all, however, I would say that we have not allowed them to fall into
idle laziness and that they will eventually become productive members of
this Weyr."

"What about the younger ones?" There had been a few, as usual in any
class that would still be under age when it came to graduation. It was
a worry that some of them could try somethign stupid, like that girl and
her green had done. She'd paid the ultimate price for that, but
youngsters
had to learn, even if some did the hard way.

"They are indeed young," the Weyrlingmaster Second conceeded. "But they
have seen the price for breaking the rules and acting foolish." There
was at least some contribution that Kustaava had made to the Weyr!

"How many will we have assigned to messenger duty and the like then?"
asked the Weyrleader. Most of the young ones seemed to enjoy being used
as messengers, they knew that they could go out and represent the Weyr.
And the added advantage was that it got them very familiar with the
territory around the Weyr, ready for joining the wings proper.

"From the newest class of weyrlings? About fifteen."

"It might be worth organising for them to have some extra time spent on
etiquette and protocol. Some of the younger ones might get carried away
with their own importance."

"Yes, of course," M'galec said as he scribbled a quick note, actually
feeling a sting of insult at the implication that perhaps the Weyrleader
thought they wouldn't be training their weyrlings in how to behve
themselves properly!

"Are there any that you would recommend for duty in my wing?"

"Any of the graduating weyrlings?" M'galec quickly scanned over his
list. "Any particular color you are looking for?"

"A bronze and about half a dozen blues."

"The bronze for sure," M'galec nodded, remembering a previous
conversation he had with the weyrling staff about a lad with good
potential. "Six blues... could be possible."

"I'm sure that U'das will have preferences as well."

"We will be sure all Wings have the riders they need," M'galec assured
the Weyrleader.

"I know you and the rest of the Weyrlingstaff will do so," K'reyel
assured him.

"Is there anything more, sir?" M'galec still had his shift in the
infirmary after his paperwork was finished.

"No, I have all I need now."
