Almonteo

Almonteo

"Thank you for making time to meet me this afternoon," the Hallmaster smiled as he walked towards the Lord Holder, extending his hand in greeting.

"Always time for you, hallmaster Almonteo," Corowal smiled when he took the hand.

"Well, I am curious as to what your people's reaction was to our little concert," the Hallmaster smiled as he walked round his desk to pick up the bottle he had taken out specially for this occasion.

"I believe that everyone enjoyed the performance, even if there was some grumbling about the female harpers. But no one can deny that it was heart-breakingly beautiful," Corowal replied.

"They would have to be something less than human to think otherwise," Almonteo snorted. "They did perform amazingly well. Master Eilomar deserves a lot of credit." He filled their glasses thoughtfully. Handing Corowal a glass of wine he said, "Grumbling I can handle. We can expect grumbling anywhere we go. But do you think there is anything to suggest they would at least tolerate our presence in their Hold?"

"I think they will tolerate you, if it means more performances like that. You would have to be dead inside for not enjoying a good music." Corowal sipped the wine and nodded appreciatively.

"And the safety of our people?" That was the real question. "Would you say that even our female crafters could mingle with your holders without fear of being bothered?"

"I can't guarantee that they would _never_ been bothered, but the general atmosphere has become more allowing and open. It's still not _weyr_ but there won't be any open hostilities," Corowal said.

Almonteo supposed no Lord Holder could guarantee more. Not in the current atmosphere of the South. "Can you promise me at least that should any holder molest my female harpers in any way, that they would be dealt swift and stern punishment?"

"That I can promise," Corowal didn't hesitate in his answer.

Could many other Lord Holders promise more? "And you will make that clear to your Holders _before_ we moved?"

Corowal just nodded.

"All right. Then I think it's time that I gauged our people's reaction to the idea of moving back to Emerald Falls with your assurances." He hoped the people of his Hall would take comfort in the Lord Holder's promises. Otherwise, they just might be in this Weyr forever. "You said there were some buildings we could use temporarily while the first wing of a new Hall was being built. How soon do you think they'd be ready?"

"In couple of sevendays, maybe a half month. There some logistics involved which takes some time," Corowal said. "Mostly it's the getting people moved out," that was not going to be pleasant.

The Hallmaster raised his hand quickly. "Please, don't rush them. It will take us two months at least to inform our people and start our packing. I don't want to hurry anyone into this on either side. And, if it might be possible, I would like to meet with your holders and assure them that the Hall will do what we can to compensate them for the inconvenience."

"That's easily arranged. Trust the harper eloquence to win them over," Corowal said and grinned.

"Well, I hope we can offer them something a bit more tangible than that. We want to be good neighbours," and certainly could not afford to make enemies from the start!

Corowal nodded again. "We make it work," he said optimistically.

"Well then," the Hallmaster smiled, lifting his glass. "To making it work."

"To making it work," Corowal repeated and met the toast.
