E'naer was showing around a group of recently searched candidates. "And
here are the candidate barracks. The boys live at this side of the curtain
and the girls on the other side. Pick a free bunk and
leave your things at it, before we continue the tour."

"You mean we're living in same room with the girls!" Someone from the
group asked incredulously. Imarre agreed with the sentiment. Well,
communal living wasn't new to him, he had done that whole his life. First
he shared a bedroom with his brother, then the apprentice dorm at the
hall. But with girls? How was he going to cope with that?

"Basically, yes. The curtain does separate you, and give some privacy,"
amused E'naer replied. He had heard that same question hundreds of times
by now.

"How do we know which bunks are free?" one of the girls asked and
E'near told her to find a bunk that was neatly made and the footlocker at
the end was empty.

The group dispersed for a moment, when the candidates looked for a bunk.
Imarre found one that looked unused and unceremoniously dumped his bags on
it.

After everyone had found a bunk, E'naer herded the group back together and
continued the tour.
"And this is the bathing chamber you will be using," he showed them in.
The cavern was large, with several pools for bathing. And several people
using it…as Imarre realized to his embarrasement.
Someone protested against such a communal bathing.
"I you want to bath alone, find a time when no one else is here,"
E'naer answered with a shrug. Shards, how many times he had heard
_that_ complain?

Imarre averted his gaze from a young woman in bath, only to have it fell
on man who was just getting up from the water. That didn't help his
discomfort at all. Especially since man caught his eyes and winked at him.
Imarre's face turned bright red. The weyrfolk didn't seem to be bothered
with the lack of clothing on others. Imarred wondered if he would ever get
used to it. The other option was to start using clothes that covered
groins. He looked the other candidates and was relieved to notice that he
wasn't the only one blushing. They were all holdbreds.

E'naer led them off from the baths. A fellow candidate was walking next to
Imarre and stared the Weyrlimaster`'s Third's back. "He's a
greenrider. Do you know what they say about greenriders?" he muttered
darkly and asked from Imarre.

"No, what do they say?" Imarre asked curiously.

The boy whispered it to his ear, and Imarre felt his ears burn. Which
wasn't a good thing, since he had such large, prominent ears. Well, he did
ask. That couldn't be possibly true, could it? He kept wondering that for
the rest of the way.

"This is the dining cavern," E'naer informed them. Imarre peered in.
People were eating and things seemed normal, what a relief. The smell of
food was tantalizing and Imarre's stomach growled.
E*naer heard it and smiled. "You get to eat after the tour is over. Next
stop is the class-rooms."
