Check-up

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 18th March 2009

Characters: Uetia, M'van
Description: Uetia has her dragon checked over by M'van, because of her sleepiness.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 19 of Turn 5

Sirjath landed in front of the dragoninfirmary on appointed time. She
backwinged a bit before settling down and letting her rider dismount.
She was medium size green and healthy looking. Her wings did look
rather large compared to her torso.

"Ahh, Uetia. Right on time," M'van said as he spotted the pair. "Ready for
her check up?"

}: Why does he want to check me when I'm not hurt? :{ Sirjath asked
curiously.

** Because I'm worried about you, ** Uetia replied.

}: Why? There's nothing wrong in me. :{

** Because I love you, you big flit.**

}: Oh! Well, in that case... :{ the dragon sounded pleased.

"If you can ask her to spread out the wing nearest me, and I'll just give
her the once over. Tell her it won't hurt."

** If you could...**

}: I heard him, :{ Sirjat interrupted and spread her wing to its full
lenght. It _was_ large compared to rest of her.

"That's good," M'van was quick as he performed a routine examination on the
green. "The other wing please."

Sirjath spread her other wing too. She followed the dragonhealer's
actions curiously.

"And so is that side. You look after her well," M'van told Uetia.

"Thank's. Is there someone who doesn't?" Uetia asked.

"I've seen a few weyrlings who've needed a bit of help, believe me," M'van
said. "How often does she sleep normally?"

"Whole night, unless we have night shift in watch duty. And bits and
pieces during the day. Usually when she has nothing to do."

}: When I get bored, I may just as well take a nap, :{ Sirjath said,
it sounded quite sensible for her. If there was nothing to do,
sleeping made the time go quickly.

"And compared to other dragons in your weyrling class? How did she sleep
then?"

"I think she slept bit more than the rest. It feels like I was
carrying her around the first sevenday when she fell asleep in places
other than the weyrlings barrack."

"I see," M'van paused in thought for a moment or two. "There doesn't seem to
be anything physically wrong with her. It might just be that her sleeping
patterns are not the same as most of the dragons here."

"In other words, she's just a lazy sleepyhead," Uetia said. "I always
thought that dragon's and their rider's have matching personalities.
If so, then why I, who never sleeps more than six candlemarks in a
night has gotten the sleepiest dragon on Pern?"

"You might find that if you transferred to another Weyr n a different
timezone, her sleeping patterns would seem more normal. Remember there is a
good difference between here and say Dolphin Cove."

"Did someone sneak an egg from Dophin Cove to our Sands?" Uetia joked.

"I don't think so," he joked back. "She'll be fine."

"Thank's, M'van. We will be off then," Uetia said. She might have
wasted the dragonhealer's time over nothing, but at least she was
feeling better about it. Sirjath was fine, just had odd sleeping
habits.

"Any time."
