Description: J'darin and Almonteo make plans for the up-coming Harper Welcome Party
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 8, day 17 of Turn 3
The Harpers had been at Dolphin Cove for a sevenday now, and J'darin was seeking out the Hallmaster on a mission that was cause for smiles.
Traelyn had mentioned a party and he knew that he and Almonteo had discussed it briefly, and so he thought they had better get something planned for the last restday, if possible. He was going to let Traelyn handle most of the details, but first he wanted to discuss a thing or two with Almonteo.
Wandering over to what the Hallmaster was using for his office, the Weyrleader knocked, leaning on a hip and trying to relax.
"Come in," Almonteo called as he continued to check the new class schedule that had was _almost_ finalized. Not all the practice rooms had been sound-proofed yet and it was taking a bit more juggling than he would have liked. Classes and hopefully 'normal' Harper life was set to resume soon and yet there was still so much needing to be done. He set the schedule to the side promptly when he noticed who it was walking into his office.
"Weyrleader," the Hallmaster smiled. "How nice of you to come by! To what I owe the honor?"
"Good day to you, Hallmaster. Settling in, are you?" He smiled at the man, he had found Almonteo very likeable and easy to work with. "I had a few moments to stop in, and two things to discuss. Have you got a moment? I know you must be very busy just now."
"I would love a distraction, actually," Almonteo replied as he offered the Weyrleader a chair. "Please, have a seat and tell me what is on your mind."
J'darin joined the Hallmaster and smiled. "Well, I know we discussed having a welcoming party for your Hall, the last restday of this month?
At least I think we discussed it.. my mind is a little full with all the other things happening. I just wanted to make sure that was still something you wanted to do, and if so, I'd let Traelyn handle the details to welcome you properly."
The Hallmaster nodded. "Yes, sir, it is! In fact, I have comissioned some new music in honor of the event."
"Outstanding! I'm pleased to hear it, Almonteo. We're a Weyr in sore need of a party. Traelyn and Jyramikah will handle the details.. just tell them what you want." He smiled, then went on. "The other thing is just a question.. do you need any help settling in? I've got some idle Weyrlings and Candidates that could be expected to lend a hand in between Threadfall."
Almonteo's eyebrows raised in surprise. This could be the answer to his problem! If they could get some extra hands helping to set up the new practice rooms, scheduling would be a breeze! "That would be greatly appreciated!"
"Very well, Hallmaster. I will send you some Candidates with nothing to do and some of the older Weyrlings, who can leave their dragons for a bit. A two candlemarks only at a time for the Weyrlings - they have classes and dragons who need them - but the Candidates are your's for a couple of days. We flew Thread yesterday, but we have no more Threadfall until day 21, so perhaps the tomorrow and the next day would suit?"
Almonteo could feel a weight lifting from his shoulders. "That would be perfect! Thank you J'darin for the thought."
"Just glad to lend a hand, Hallmaster. Be kind to my Candidates and Weyrlings, hmm?" He teased, then smiled. "See Traelyn and Jyramikah for party details, or have your wife do it, hmm? Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"You've done so much for us already, Weyrleader. I wish I had more to promise in return."
"Nonsense! I'm glad to help. Its my duty, and a joy it is. Don't hesitate to ask for anything, if you need it." The Weyrleader smiled once and rose back to his feet. "I'll leave you to your work now, though, and look forward to the end of the month!"
"Me too," Almonteo as he rose to walk the Weyrleader to the door. "It will be quite a party. I can't wait!"
