"Eh, there! What is it yer do'n here?" the guard asked gruffly as he eyed Corran suspiciously. This was one of the guards that transferred from Amethyst Cliffs. They were in a part of the guard tower that was little used, a series of storage rooms.

"Looking for a spare uniform." Corran answered. It wasn't true, of course, but he knew that this area of the rooms did have extra uniforms. He'd planned ahead to have excuses.

"Well, you'd be wantin' to look down thet away then," Uli pointed to a door down the hall a few doors down.

"Were they in here a few months ago or am I really that turned around?" Corran hoped Uli would leave soon, but worst came to worst he'd go find the uniforms and come back later.

"Don't know as they've moved recently, but you havin' so little time at this Hold I kin undestand how ya might get confused easy like," the other man replied snidely. "Fact is, these rooms here are off limits fer a time," Uli stated in a tone almost threatening.

"And why is that?" Any other guard would have asked the question, Corran hoped.

"Not that its any of _yer_ business, but so happens thet some tha disputed goods from a disagreement between two cotholders is being locked up here," the surly guard pointed to the locks that had recently been put on the doors.

Corran made a mental note to check with Zathris or Cyrek to determine if this was true. "Why not announce it's off limits rather than just lock it? After all, we lock the weapons storeroom too."

"The way _I_ was trained, I do what I'm told? Don't ask alot of questions. Followin' orders is what we're about, ain't it?"

"Yes, it is." Corran agreed. "That doesn't mean we're not allowed to ask why. If we can't know we'll be told that, but knowing as much as possible is critical for the job."

Uli simply grunted. Critical thought was not his forte. He was big, muscular and followed orders, and was surprised when this wasn't enough to earn him the promotions he desired. Rather than facing his own shortcomings he blamed the Amethyst Cliff guards for moving in and and 'stealing' positions that should rightfully have belonged to natives of Amber Hills. "Yeah, well, I don't know nuthin' more about this."

"Fair enough." Corran allowed. "You said two storerooms down?"

"Yeah, thet's right," Uli answered, walking in the opposite direction, mumbling under his breath.
