Sitting in a quiet corner of the Tavern, Nimroy sipped his klah observing the clientele and watching the door. He had shown up a bit early for the meeting, wanting to choose his seat and be settled when the other man arrived. From Zathris's description, he did not believe he would have any difficulty recognizing the guard. In fact, that must be him there. The other man was short in stature but moved with confidence. The guard scanned the room and when the emerald eyes fell on Nimroy, he gave Corran a nod.

Corran quickly headed over. "Good morning, sir. You wished to see me?"

"Yes, please sit down. You were recommended as someone who could be trusted for a special assignment if the need arose. Although, I am yet uncertain whether or not the need may arise, I wanted to meet you and find out a bit about your background." Nimroy stopped to take a sip of his klah.

Special assignments. Well, yes, Corran was trusted with those- right now as a matter of fact. He wondered if it had been Zathris who recommended him. It was either Zathris or Cyrek who would know. "Well, my services are at your disposal."

"Currently, I think your services are occupied in important pursuits," Nimroy gave Corran a knowing look. "And I don't want to take you from your current duties. However, with the current political climate of the Hold, I do have some concerns for the future." If no record of an heir could be found, Nimroy knew that security for those he held dear would become a priority. "You were a guard at Amethyst Cliff for some turns were you not?"

"For almost 20 Turns. I apprenticed there at 12 and only left when the whole Hold did." Corran replied.

Nimroy nodded and took another sip of his klah. "I am sure then, that you have had the opportunity to observe Hold politics and that you understand how events such as a Lord Holder's death can have perilous repercussions for the Hold and many of those in it, particularly if the successor is undecided."

Corran nodded. "I'd like to say I'm just a guard and guards don't deal in politics. Unfortunately, our position often means we see a lot of it." He paused. "Do you think that in the period of turmoil, people may take opportunities they might otherwise not?"

"I would like to say no. This is my family after all. Unfortunately, I am not confidant of that. I never considered myself in the running for succession and I still do not so the role I intend to play is to see that things run as smoothly as possible. I just want to see us all through this and see Amber Hills intact. To do that I am going to have to adopt a realistic view of the situation."

"I wasn't even thinking your family so much as members of the hold. Not all, of course, but I wonder if the confusion would mean an increase in small crimes like petty theft." Corran explained. "However, I think your decision is a wise one. The more informed all of those in leadership roles are, the better."

Nimroy nodded. "Well I hope these concerns are for naught, both concerning the Hold members and my family. Right now your current responsibilities require your every attention, but there might be a time in the near future when I might ask for your assistance. Right now if you could just be aware and let myself or Zathris know of any concerns you might have. I am not asking you to bypass your normal chain of command, I would just like to be in the loop as well."

"That's fine by me, sir." Corran told him. "And, since you are in the know- technically Zathris and Cyrek _are_ my chain of command right now, given the investigation. As long as they're fine with your inclusion, that is, I can report freely to you." It was an odd feeling for him to not be reporting to his captain, but Corran was flexible. He'd adapt.

"Very well. I will have Zathris speak with you at his earliest convenience. Do you have any questions for _me_?"

"One, but if it's too personal I'll understand if you don't answer it.." Nimroy was being honest with him so far, but personal questions were different from work.

"I cannot promise to answer, but please feel free to ask." He wondered what the guard might possibly want to know.

"What role do you see yourself taking in the Hold once a successor is found? If you are not the successor, that is."

Rubbing his thumb along the edge of the cup of klah before him, Nimroy smiled. "I have always been good with trade, and trade agreements. I enjoy the travel involved and I suppose I find the politics...well... interesting and the people involved even more so. That is the role I played while my father lived and that is the role that intend to play in the future. My father and I did not often agree while he was alive, but he was a great man and I want to see his legacy continue. I plan on using what skill I have to see that Amber Hills prospers under new leadership as was my father's hope and dream."

"It sounds like a role you'll be good at."

"One can only hope," he answered with a certain melancholy.
