Date: month 13, day 25 of Turn 4

F'gol walked to his trunk still sitting next to his bunk in the Harper Hall apprentice barracks just like he'd never been gone; never started a new life. He opened the trunk and saw that everything was still in order, shirts, pants, even his dress boots for performances. He took the satchel off his back and slowly started to place the stacks of clothes in the bag. He realized he didn't have enough room for the boots, so he sat them on the floor, planning to just carry them. As he slung the satchel over his shoulder and stood up, he saw he wasn't alone in the barracks any more. "Afternoon Larathey."

"What are _you_ doing here." It was obvious from the tone of voice that Larathey wasn't happy to see F'gol.

F'gol wasn't really surprised, Larathey had always been the surly type. Still, he hadn't been expecting hostility from the apprentice. "I'm cleaning out my stuff, moving it to the weyrling barracks."

"Barracks where you don't belong." Larathey's hands clenched into fists and he stood there, seething. It wasn't fair! I just wasn't fair! He had been trying for _turns_!

"You're telling me." F'gol acknowledged with a grunt. He still couldn't believe what had happened, how he'd been a harper with a great future one moment and a blue weyrling with a desolate future the next.

Larathey took a step closer. "You weren't even supposed to _be_ on the sands. You weren't supposed to be standing. It's all your fault!"

F'gol frowned, "What's my fault?"

"That was _my_ dragon." Larathey closed the distance that was left between him and the bluerider. "_Mine_. He was coming to me before you decided to mess everything up! I've stood for eight turns and my chance gets taken away." And he wouldn't get another. The next hatching wouldn't be until he was too old to stand any more.

He'd never felt so possessive of anything before, but having Larathey challenge his claim on Tealth flooded him with anger. "I didn't mess anything up. Tealth wanted _me_. He didn't want _you_!"

"You got in his way." It wasn't true, but Larathey needed _some_one to blame. "If you hadn't been there, I would have been the one to impressed. You distracted him! He should have been _mine_!"

F'gol hadn't noticed the man's fists balled or his right foot slightly behind him, if he had, he might have had time to react when Larathey swung his arm around and punched him right in the nose. They were too close together for the swing to have as much power behind it as it could, but it still caused him to start pouring blood. The pain F'gol felt was immense, and he instinctively lunged at the man, knocking them both to the ground.

The bluerider got in a punch of his own, to Larathey's eye, before he felt Tealth's panicked cry. F'gol rolled off the man, giving his ribs a swift kick to be sure he wasn't followed, and ran out of the barracks towards his lifemate.

Not even giving a second thought to the fact that he'd never see the Harper Hall apprentice barracks again.
