Experienced advice

Writers: Paula, Eimi
Date Posted: 10th February 2009

Characters: U'kaiah, N'mor
Description: N'mor goes to meet U'kaiah to get a bit of an advice from an older bronzerider.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 30 of Turn 4

The good part of not being weyrling any longer, was the freedom of going
where he wanted (when he was not on duty, of course). N'mor
mused over the fact when Kedvencth appeared out of /between/ and
trumpeted a greeting for the Dragonsfall's watch dragon. The Weyr
looked the same as when he had left it. ** Contact Kalamath and ask if his
rider wants to see us, ** he asked when the young bronze started to circle
downwards and look for a landing spot.

**Mine is happy yours is coming!** came the reply.

"N'mor," U'kaiah grinned as he met the young man on his ledge. "What
brings you to Dragonsfall? Feeling nostalgic?"

"A bit. Now that I can go to anywhere I want, I like to go and see some
friends," N'mor grinned and slid off from the bronze's back.

"I'm glad to hear that I am counted among them," the Wingleader smiled.

"Yes. Besides, I could use advice from more experienced bronzerider,"
N'mor said.

"Oh? This sounds serious." He put an arm around the younger man's
shoulders and walked him inside. "Let's just have a seat, shall we?"

"Thank's. I brought some fruit wine from Topaz Sea hold," he pulled out a
bottle. "I have no idea what it tastes like. Bought it from
local market."

U'kaiah hide a smile. Fruit wine? Ah well, he was only fifteen. "I'll
find us some glasses then. There's a bottle opener on the table."

N'mor found the opener and actually managed to get it open without
breaking the bottle. He hadn't a lot of experience of opening bottles. Or
drinking in general.

U'kaiah set the glasses in front of him and let him do the honor of
pouring. "So what is this challenge that you're facing then?"

"Girls, what else," N'mor groaned. "I haven't gotten past a single kiss.
And Ked is starting to show interest in greens. He's posing at them when I
wash him and some of the things I've overheard him to say them are down
right flirty. It's just matter of time when he starts to chase and I have
no clue what to do."

"Ah, yes." U'kaiah hadn't needed much help when it came to losing his
virginity. He hadn't ben terribly picky, and with friends like Harki and
Serian, experimentation was the norm. But he had worked with enough
weyrlings to know that not everyone was as comfortable with such things.
"So, what is it that's stopping you?"

"They keep brushing me off," N'mor complained, refering to the
girl-gender. "I don't know how to make them interested in me. They all
seem to consider me too young." Being small sized did make him look even
younger than he was.

"You don't need them to be interested in you. Not yet." U'kaiah downed
his glass of wine and encouraged the young man to do the same. This might
take a bit stronger drink. "Your immediate need, N'mor, is to just get it
over with. You can't wait for the perfect condition when your dragon is
so close to chasing." Besides, with the right teacher to encourage him,
he might feel like more of a man and therefore exude confidence to women
he could potentially like.

"But how?" N'mor asked and sipped his wine. He grimaced and stared the
glass. "Do people really drink this stuff?" he wondered. It was not to his
liking.

"Bronzeriders usually don't," U'kaiah with a soft chuckle. "Give me your
glass and I'll give you a real drink."

N'mor groaned. "I can't pick up a drink nor a girl."

"You can learn to do both. But maybe first what you need to just be
handed one so you can know what you like." The bronzerider looked through
his cabnet until he found a nice smooth whiskey. "Sometimes you have to
try all kinds before you know what you're looking for." He poured a
splash of it into the bottom of a fresh glass and handed it to the young
man. "I think what you and I need to do is just go find one of the ladies
who volunteers to help young men such as yourself and just do it. An
older and more experienced woman can teach you a lot, believe me."

"Okey," N'mor said, with slight trembling in his voice. He took the new
glass and in his nervousness, drained it in one gulp. It made his eyes
water and he got a coughing fit. "Shards, shells and scorching flames."

"All right, N'mor, I will tell you one thing right now that will help you
with both drinking and the ladies - you have to pace yourself." Though one
more slug like that and the boy wouldn't be nearly so timid with the
ladies.

"It was stronger than I expected," the youngster said sheepishly.

The bronzerider grinned, knowing that the boy really had no idea what he
was dealing with. "It's sometimes called liquid courage. I have a
feeling a little courage is what you need right now."

"If it doesn't burn my throat first," N'mor snorted with humour.

"Ah, well, you know what they say. It's only supposed to hurt the first
time."

"Well, it certainly did," N'mor muttered.
