Where Is Your Vintner Partner?

Writers: Jane, Francesca
Date Posted: 7th February 2009

Characters: G'len, Zandreu
Description: Zandreu greets G'len when he arrives at the Tavern.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 4
Notes: Mentioned: L'pin, Barthella

}:I thought Turn's End celebrations were over:{ Tobereth said, landing
in the clearing near the entrance to the Tavern.

**They are at the Weyr, at least for most, but not here. Here,
they're just getting started.** G'len had slept for several
candlemarks and was ready for more food, drink, dancing, and fun. The
newly hatched dragonets would be awake soon, but L'pin would be there
to help in the morning, with G'len joining him a bit later. Luckily,
he still had energy, even after drinking and little sleep.

Music was already coming from the Tavern and, as he stepped inside,
the sight of many people and the smell of good food and wine was
almost overwhelming. The party had already started. "Hello Zandreu,"
he said in greeting. The Tavern Master was stationed at the entrance,
as befitted the host of the celebration.

"G'len!" Zandreu's face lit with surprise and a smile. "Now, you know
I have to ask you this - where is your vintner partner?"

"Actually, it would be wonderful if you could find her for me," G'len
replied with a smile. "Barthella agreed to be my partner. She even
showed me her dress for the night, so we wouldn't clash."

"Barthella?" Zandreu hoped he didn't look as incredulous as his tone
sounded. "Er - How unexpected. She - Really? Did she ask you or
did you beg until she gave in?"

"Zandreu, Zandreu," G'len shook his head in mock disappointment.
"Can't you see that she and I make the perfect pair?" His eyes
glinted in amusement. Yes, this would be a fun night.

"I've been trying since you mentioned her name," Zandreu admitted with
a laugh, "But it's not going too well."

"As soon as you see us taking a turn on the dance floor, you'll see."
He knew they were unconventional partners, but it would be
interesting to see what other unlikely pairs would show up. "Besides,
with her needed in the kitchen some of the time, I'll have plenty of
time to mingle and convince others to dance with me."

Zandreu looked curiously at the other man. "Do you dance with women,
or men?" he asked.

"Anyone who wants to dance with me. Generally I prefer men. Here
though, I think I'll stick with women." There was no need to cause a
scene, or confirm stereotypes about weyrfolk.

"I'd appreciate that," Zandreu admitted. "Well, go on in. It's a
rare evening here that you won't have to pay for a thing - and some of
the best food and drink the Hall can provide is on offer.

"Aye, that's why I'm here," G'len said with a grin to show he was, at
least partially, kidding. He hoped to have time to speak with Zandreu
again before the celebration was over. Maybe he could even convince
the Tavern Master to join him in a dance, although that was very
unlikely.

"And it's good to have you here," the master vintner said. Some
people were never more that good customers - but some were good
customers _and_ friends.
