"Journeyman," the Healer nodded to the crafter as he passed the young man's workshop.

"Master," the woodsmith replied as he looked up from the golden-haired canine he was patting. "Fine day, isn't it?"

"Very much so. Maybe the weather is on the turn at last?" suggested the healer. Miranek bent to look at the canine, "He's a fine looking animal."

Theyzen smiled up at the healer. "Thank you, sir. He's friendly if you want to pet him."

Miranek bent to do just that. "My children would just love him."

"He's good with children." The young man smiled as he thought about his own son, barely able to push the weight of his body up on his own hands to look around at the world, and there would be True's big black nose and pink tongue to welcome the little one's accomplishment. "How old are your children?"

"I have three. Helan is twelve, Ranval ten and Valnek five. A girl and two boys."

Theyzen grinned. This was his favorite topic. "I have a boy. Thevan.
He's about three and a half months old."

"They grow up fast," said Miranek. "Enjoy it while he's still a babe in arms."

"I intend to. Especially now that I don't have to go out to the logging camps." That was one of the things Theyzen looked forward to being assigned to a major hold. There was enough to keep him occupied without having to spend sevendays away from home.

"It isn't fun being parted from your family for long periods of time.
Occasionally when I was journeying, there were places that it was not suitable to bring the children to, or not worth moving them for a short period of time. Letters helped, but a baby needs his father."

Theyzen nodded. "Yes. When it was my turn to go to the camp those last couple times, I swear Thevan grew two inches while I was gone at least!
I don't want to be gone so long again."

"They seem to change daily at that age," mused Miranek. "Apart from my own, I usually only see them as they are born, or if they get sick."

The woodsmith smiled. "In which case, forgive me for saying so, but I hope you will never have to meet my son."

Miranek laughed, "If I had a mark for everytime someone said that to me, well I'd be a very wealthy man."

Theyzen smiled. "Makes you feel appreciated, doesn't it?"

"In some sort of a strange way. But maybe I will meet your son, if a brother or sister were to come along."

"I think it will be a while before that will happen, sir." In fact, he and Venora hadn't even discussed the possibility of more children. Of course, they barely spoke about anything other than small talk.

"Maybe one day perhaps?"

"I certainly hope so, Master." There was nothing ion the world that Theyzen loved as much as his young son. Having more children would only give him greater happiness. He hoped his wife felt the same. Someday he would have to discuss it with his wife, he knew. But not yet. It was still too soon.

"The main thing is to get used to your son as he is, before even thinking of more children," remarked Miranek. He had seen some women worn down by having child after child after child. And others who had clearly thought about and still had many children, but were happy and contented.

Theyzen nodded. He would never push Vanora. Into _anything_. "Yes, I'm sure we're not ready to even think of more children yet. Thevan is only a few months after all."

"When you are both ready, it will happen," said Miranek. "Take your time, relax and before you know it, Thevan will have a brother or sister."

"And you?" The woodsmith asked curiously. "Are you finished having children, you think?"

"I don't know, Helvalla - my wife - and I haven't talked about it in a long while. I think perhaps I would like another daughter, but it has to be a mutual decision." "Who knows," Theyzen smiled, "maybe we will both have daughters in the next few turns. And they can be playmates."

"Maybe indeed," replied the Healer.
