"Mabrina?" Riveenata asked as she pulled aside the privacy curtain. "How are you doing?"
The greenrider sat up, she was tired after having been through all that last night, but she gave a weak smile to the healer. "I'm okay, thirsty though."
"I can bring you some water." Riven poked her head outside the curtain and asked a passing apprentice for water. "I'm Journeywoman Riveenata, by the way. Has anyone talked to you about your condition today?" she asked.
Mabrina looked up at the light streaming through the windows and shook her head. "Not in awhile. I know somebody checked on me earlier but it was dark still."
"Well, from what we can tell, you will be fine." Riven reassured her. The apprentice came in with the water. When she left, the healer resumed speaking. "When did you know you were pregnant?"
She shrugged and then took a long drink of the offered water. "I don't know, I guess I finally admitted it to myself a few days ago."
"You were farther along than most are when they go /between/ to end a pregnancy." the healer explained gently. "That's why there was heavier bleeding and more pain."
That's what she figured. She hated herself for being such a stupid scared girl. If only she hadn't keep making excuses for the signs her body had been giving maybe it wouldn't have been so bad, so dangerous. "I thought it was still okay. They say that if you're too far along then /between/ won't hurt anything."
"There are three trimesters of pregnancy. /Between/ ends the first and the third, but not the second." Riven explained. "You were probably close to the end of the first."
Mabrina nodded again, the timing was right with her last mating flight. "I'd never done anything like that before. I was just scared."
"It's all right to be scared. You can always come to the Healers if you want to confirm it or need any advice. We can also deal with it without /between/." she explained. "I know it's a little late now, but if it ever happens again at least you have some advice."
"I don't think I'll be doing it /between/ ever again." The thought of it sent a chill down her spine and she placed her hand across her achy stomach as she remembered the awful pain.
"I've heard it can be unpleasant. The herbs have the same effect, of course, but done early it's easier." Riven said. "I think I've covered the basics. Can I get you anything else?"
Mabrina paused, trying to think of what sort of important questions she should ask the healer, but she was still very tired after last night so she just shook her head. "The other healer said I could go back to my Weyr tonight?"
"Yes, you can." Riven said. "However you'll need to remain in bed for another day or two, and you're not allowed full duties for a sevenday. If you'll tell me your Wingleader, I'll notify him of it."
"U'das in Torrent." she replied with a frown. An extended absence would be noticed, not that she thought her scene in the dining cavern would go unnoticed. Still, people would look at her different when she got back.
"I'll tell him today." Riven said. "If you come back in four days, I can check you out and maybe you can return then. But please don't push yourself."
Mabrina nodded again, she'd do as she was told, if only to heal all the faster. "I will."
"I'll stop back in for one last check, but otherwise I see no problem with you going home tonight." the healer announced.
"Thank you." Mabrina waited until the healer left her side, then closed her eyes. She was still tired enough that sleep overtook her in mere moments.
