"Master Eilomar," a smile drifted across the Hallsecond's face as she passed through the dining hall. "How are the preparations going for the concert?"
"They are doing fine, master Thanja. The choir is getting into the shape and the soloists are practising hard," Eilomar replied with satisfied expression.
"Did you stick with the ones I heard in the auditions?" asked the Printer as she slipped into a seat across from the Master Harper.
"Yes, I do. The sore throated journeyman, he actually developed a bronchtitis, so he is out for too long time to make it to the performance. Who knows where he picked up his infection," Eilomar sounded dismayed that his favourite had had the gall of getting sick.
"I'm sure he will recover soon," assured Thanja. "The healers here and at the Weyr are excellent."
"Yes, they are, I have the unfortunate to experience that myself," Eilomar said with a very rare flash of self-ironic humour.
"My son is among them, you know that? He accepted an apprenticeship there."
"Really? You would think he would have like to become a harper like his parents," Eilomar said.
"Printer," she corrected gently. "No, he wanted to help people, and I think Master Pacham impressed him when he fixed his broken arm not that long ago."
"I only have daughters," Eilomar said, completely forgetting the result of a love affair in his youth and his grandson from that affair.
"My only daughter Impressed a green dragon, she's far away at River Bluff now."
Eilomar just nodded and concentrated on eating for while. That was something they had already talked about and he didn't feel a need to return to the subject.
"So," she said, noting the Master was eating. "I'll look forward to seeing the final performance."
"So do I even I'm the one who conducts it. It's going to be great! Unless half of the choir goes and impress."
"I doubt they all want to stand, it takes a certain kind of person to want that."
"I do hope so, I hate loosing talented singers for dragon. In that matter, this place is the worst possible for the hall," Eilomar grumbled.
"I think we'll just have to keep all out youngsters so busy that they don't realise there are dragons about," Thanja was only half serious.
"I am certainly trying," Eilomar replied, quite seriously. Sense of humour wasn't among his talents.
"I'm sure you are," Thanja replied, her tone light. "I'm sure you are."
