"Will you miss me?" Bridinar glanced down at his daughter with a small
smile.
Briata laughed. "Of course I will! We'll see each other in a couple of sevendays and I'm sure we'll see each other quite often after the marriage since you'll be here for other reasons too."
"True." But it wasn't the same and never would be again. Someone had finally come along and was taking his little girl away from him. "It's just...usually I'm the one who
comes and goes, not you. I suppose I shall have to get used to it."
"The time will fly and then you'll be back to have me married!" Briata stood upon
her tiptoes and gave her father a kiss upon the cheek. She would miss him terribly, but Onyx Peak was only a day and a half's ride from Garnet Valley, so visits wouldn't be too difficult.
"Well, come on then." Bridinar slipped his arm around Briata and gave
her a half hug as he guided her toward the door of the cot. "Let's
get you settled. I, unfortunately, have some business to take care
of."
The two stopped before the door and Bridinar rapped upon it, then
stepped back to wait.
"They're here!" two young voices squeeled in unison from behind the
door before it opened. The grizzled man with the free flowing beard
that greeted them though was obviously not one of the previous
speakers. "Ah Bridinar, Briata, good to see you again. Come in."
Morina, Briata's step-aunt, greeted them both with hugs once they were
inside. "Is that all you brought with you?" she noticed only a couple of small trunks that held the girl's belongings, "Well never mind.
Talmina's got plenty you can borrow and I can take them in for you so
they fit."
Talphy and Morina's two youngest children were already pulling at
Bridinar's tunic to get his attention, he always had small sweets for
the two when he visited, and they weren't going to continue with their
play until they recieved them just in case he snuck out later.
"I seem to have two little firelizards pulling on me." Bridinar stated,
his voice tinged with mock confusion. "It's as if they want
something."
"Oh Papa, don't be a tease." Briata clicked her tongue in teasing
admonishment. Then she turned her bright smile toward her Aunt and
cousins. "It's so good to see you all again! Where are Talmina nad
Taljen? Oh the little ones have gotten so big!"
"They're both still on shift. Talmina should be here soon, but Taljen's absorbed in a rug he's working on so who knows when he'll be back." Morina had been a Weaver's wife for over twenty turns, she knew the sometimes obsessive life they led and was not in the least surprised that her son was just like his father.
The youngsters found the pocket of wrapped sweets and squealed with delight as they chased each other off into the next room. "Thank you Uncle! they remembered to call once out of sight.
Briata watched the little ones leave, then turned back to her aunt and uncle. "They're no longer the cuddly little toddlers that I once knew. I suppose hugs and kisses are out of the question for such big children." The girl sighed wistfully.
"Don't worry," Bridinar stated as he leaned over to plant a kiss upon the top of his daughter's head. "I'm sure you can corner them and give them plenty. I'm afraid I can't stay long, I have a meeting to attend but I'll be back later and we can spend the evening together. I'll be heading back early in the morning."
"Okay Papa." Briata gave her father a hug and then released him. He turned to Talphy and Morina, "Thank you, both of you." He clasped the Weaver's hand then bent over to plant a kiss upon Morina's cheek. "I'll see you all this evening." With that, he turned and left.
Morina took Briata's hand, "Come on, we'll get you settled in to the girl's room."
"Thank you Morina." Briata followed her aunt without any hesitation.
Talphy watched his wife lead Briata away, then turned and headed out. He had taken his lunch break at home and had to get back to work. It would be interesting having another young woman in the house. Briata was a sweet girl. He didn't foresee any issues.
