K'reyel

K'reyel

"Up for a little one on one sir?" B'lamick asked as he saw the Weyrleader
approach the nets. He'd wandered down to the Sandball pit in hopes of
burning off a bit of stress but there hadn't been any adult games going and
he didn't really feel like going easy with the children at the other end.

K'reyel looked the youngster up and down briefly. Young enough to still be a weyrling, but his knots said otherwise. "Of course bronzerider, so long as you can cope with the fact that I'm a little rusty."

"I'll give you a chance to warm up." he offered with a grin. In the air and on the ground K'reyel was Weyrleader, but in the sand, he was just another one of the guys and B'lamick planned on treating him like he would anyone else.

K'reyel took a moment to check that the slightly softer shoes he was wearing had their laces fastened, then liberated a ball from one of the lockers, bouncing it on the ground quickly to check that it was good to use. "This ball looks okay."

"We can do some practice passes for a bit if you want." He offered, he
could use with a bit of a warmup himself.

That sounded like a plan. K'reyel gathered the ball closer to himself,
shifting it into position before waiting for the other bronzerider to move a
decent distance away.

The two bumped the ball between them easily, it was nice and relaxing, both
having a few laughs as the ball would get away from one of them and they'd
have to go diving after it. "Well I think I'm warmed up, you ready to go
for points?"

"First to five?" suggested K'reyel.

"You serve." he agreed, tossing him the ball and jogging over to the other
side of the net.

The ball was placed in the Weyrleader's palm as his other hand bunched into
a fist, preparing to punch the ball into the air and over the net. It was a
clean serve, easily clearing the net and drifting lazily to the far side of
the pit.

B'lamick dove for it but missed, he'd play more in the middle from now on,
he wasn't used to one on one. He passed the ball back over and grinned,
"Lucky fist one."

Making the return shot, K'reyel grinned. "Your return was just as lucky."

They batted the ball back a forth. B'lamick got ahead at one point, but it
was mainly K'reyel's game. "You know, if this is you being rusty, I'd hate
to play against you when you're well oiled." the younger bronze panted out
during a pause in the game.

"Back when I had more time..." K'reyel grinned after he'd got his breath
back. "When I was your age this was a very popular game."

"I'd never seen the game before I came to the Weyr." he explained, not as an excuse, but for conversation sake. "They didn't have it at the Healer Hall, though I wish they had, it's a great workout."

"You really need some sort of beach area to play."

B'lamick nodded, he'd have sore enough knees tomorrow as it was, he couldn't imagine diving with nothing but dirt and grass to catch you. "Wanna go another five?"

"I think I have time."

He grinned and tossed him the ball. "Your serve!"
