C'pouk turned from the serving ling in the dining cavern, a piping hot bowl
of his favorite soup on his tray. Concentrating so intently on not letting
it slosh out of the bowl, he never saw the young girl getting up from her
table. When the tray hit her back, it tilted back towards him, spilling the
soup all over his chest.
Though her first reaction was to turn to the person who had hit her in
anger, when Tamaca saw the results of the collision, she changed her
approach. "I'm sorry! Are you alright?" She grabbed a napkin from the table
and tried to reach toward him to clean up the mess.
C'pouk was struggling to pull off his tunic, to get the hot liquid off his
chest. Already his chest was turning red from the burn. "Yeah, yeah, he
said absently. "I think so."
She found herself the recipient of his tray, which she placed on the table
she had been vacating at the time of the accident. With hands free, she
pulled at his tunic, tugging it over his head. Upon view of the scald marks,
she turned, grabbed a mug of water and splashed it liberally on his chest.
The brownrider felt as if he'd been thrown /between/. "Shards! That's
cold!" he exclaimed. When he could breath again he turned to the girl at
the center of all this. "I mean, thank you. Are you alright?"
She waved a hand in dismissal. "I should have been more aware of my
surroundings. How about you? Should you see a healer?"
C'pouk winced as he used an offered towel to dry his chest. "I don't think
so, unless it starts to blister. What do you think? Will it?"
Tamaca smiled at that question. "My mum's a healer but I've always avoided
anything to do with that craft. I really can't tell you whether it will
blister or not."
Looking around, he asked, "Is mom nearby?"
The greenrider shook her head. "She's in the infirmary – which leaves us
where we were."
Before C'pouk could answer, Uitgaandth's shadow filled the cavern entrance,
his eyes rapidly whirling the yellow of alarm. }:C'POUK! YOU ARE HURT!!:{
His scalded chest momentarily forgotten, C'pouk ran out of the cavern to
comfort Uitgaandth. "I'm fine, Love. Really." Crashing into the dragon's
head, he was acutely aware of his raw skin rubbing across the dragon's hide.
Wincing in agony he tried desperately to comfort his lifemate.
Tamaca wandered over to next to the bronzerider. "It's worse than you're
letting on, isn't it? He wouldn't be so upset if you were alright."
Gritting his teeth in the effort to keep his voice level, C'pouk replied,
"No, he felt the initial shock, and I did not re-assure him."
She eyed him sternly. "I don't believe you."
Looking down at his chest, C'pouk could see the first of the blisters
growing. "Maybe."
Hands on her hips, Tamaca regarded him solemnly. "Infirmary. Now."
}:Listen to the girl:{
Patting the dragon's snout, C'pouk said "I will." Turning to Tamaca, he
continued, "OK, you win."
"Of course," Tamaca stated. "I usually win."
C'pouk glared at the girl. "You have quite the bedside manner."
She shrugged. "I told you – I'm not a healer."
"But mom is?"
"Yes, but I've inherited none of her bedside manner." She offered him her
arm. "Shall we go and see her?"
Uitgaandth nudged him from behind.
"Let's go."
