K'reyel

K'reyel

C'pouk was waist deep in the Weyr lake, scrubbing the underside of
Uitgaandth's neck when I wave nearly knocked off his feet. Turning to see
who was making waves he saw the bronze bulk of Erdenth coming up from
beneath the water.

On the far side of the dragon C'pouk caught sight of K'reyel. "Good day,
weyrleader. I thought Uitgaandth was a job to clean, but Erdenth must
really be a challenge."

"He can be," K'reyel told the young brownrider. "But I have some help
coming, my daughter promised me she would be here soon enough."

"Luck," he answered. "Normally kids flock to help me bathe this lump, but
everyone is busy after a Fall."

"We all have duties."

"That we do," C'pouk agreed. Looking at the activity around the Weyr, he
repeated, "that we do."

Erdenth meanwhile was splashing about, enjoying the freedom of a lack of
straps, and cool water on his dusty hide. }:The little ones approach,:{ he
told his rider.

"My daughters are here, I'm sure one of them would be more than happy to
help you," K'reyel offered, knowing how dragon mad they were.

"If you are sure Erdenth would not mind."

"He gets spoiled with all the attention."

"Uitgaandth is the same way," he said. "He, however, insists that he takes
so many baths just to please the weyrlings."

"Weyrlings need to learn."

C'pouk laughed. "Just what he needs to hear, the Weyrleader backing him
up."

Along side him, Uitgaandth rumbled deep in his chest }:I told you I was
right:{

"Sounds like he agrees."

"He does. Now I'll have to put up with that for a while."

Looking towards the beach, C'pouk saw two young girls with buckets and
brushes wading towards them. "Those two your's," he asked, pointing.

"They are indeed," K'reyel's voice swelled with pride. "My eldest is a
candidate."

"That's nice," the boy said. "I am the first rider in my family for as long
as we can remember."

"Maybe you'll be first in a long line."

C'pouk chuckled. "You really are on Uitgaandth's side, aren't you? He
insist that he chases every green to give me a chance for that."

"He's young and he'll learn. Erdenth, well he's settled down now, but I had
a few 'adventures' shall we say."

"Be patient?" Looking fondly at his lifemate, C'pouk said, "I can do that."

"Just so long as you work with him," K'reyel explained. "That's the main
thing."

Resuming his scrubbing of the browns hide, the young rider said, I can do
that, sir."
