"Ah Daigoro, how nice to see you." Barthella said with a smile as she
noticed the man at the bar.
"Barthella," the Hallsecond nodded, raising his mug in salute. "Quiet
evening."
She nodded in agreement as she looked around at the mostly empty tavern,
"Mid sevenday usually is, tomorrow will be better."
"Oh of course," Daigoro nodded, not having intended any blame on the
taverns part. "It's nice to be able to hear myself think in here for a
change."
Barthella chuckled, "Aye, it is. These are about the only days I get to
come out front. I'm usually too busy in the kitchen to be able to sit
out and enjoy everyone's company."
"That is a pity. Can you at least hear the fine music from back there?"
"Well, at least the drumming, the voices are usually muffled by the
doors." she said as she thumbed behind her at the swinging doors.
"Ah, well, it's better than the crashing sound of pots and pans at
least, eh?" he asked, bringing his mug back up to his lips for another
healthy sip.
She sighed, "Well yes, I get to hear plenty of those too. Say, Cinale
won't be joining you down here by any chance would she?"
"Not at this candlemark. She's busy in her kitchens." He didn't mind
that, really. Daigoro was proud that his wife had a chance to use her
talents for more than just himself. It would be such a waste otherwise.
Of course someday, when they had a family of their own...
Barthella smiled understandingly, "Of course. You should bring her down
sometime soon though, let someone else cook for her for a change."
"Yes, well, I better not suggest it too loudly. Wouldn't want her to
hear me talk too loudly of another woman's cooking," Daigoro said with a
knowing wink.
"Ah, but if she saw me in action she might learn a thing or two to spice
up her _kitchen_." she taunted with a wink of her own.
Daigoro chuckled and took a long pull of his draft. He sure hoped they
were still talking about cooking. "Well," he licked the line of foam
from his top lip, "I would just like to get her out of the Main Hall a
little more often. We're talking about taking a trip the two of us."
"Oh, to where?" Barthella's interest was piqued as she leaned against
the bar. She loved travel, but rarely got to go anyplace too far as she
was always needed at the Taverns.
"Dunno yet," he said with a shake of his head. "I was half thinking of
visiting family, but its our anniversary. We won't exactly want company
around, you know?"
"Definitely not family then," Barthella agreed with a knowing smile. "Do
you know anything about sailing? You could take a boat out... Or what
about a trip to the mountains? I have a friend who runs the Tavern in
Firerock, he owes me a favor or two so I'm sure I could secure you a
larger room with a beautiful view."
Daigoro leaned a little closer. "We're actually thinking of using my
sway a little and getting a dragonrider to take us somewhere a little
more... tropical."
"How romantic!" she exclaimed, "I went to an island turns ago and it
was the most fantastic time, she'll absolutely love it."
"I surely hope so." He wanted to make their first anniversary
memorable, if at all possible. As Hallsecond he had responsibilities at
home, but hopefully they would soon be having children, and such trips
wouldn't possible. With one final swig and a sigh of satisfaction, he
polished off his mug. "Well, I suppose I'd best be getting home before
my wife gets off duty."
Barthella nodded and smiled as the man stood up. "You'll have to tell
me how the trip was when you get back, I'm seething with jealousy right
now you know."
"I'll bring you back a seashell," he promised as he plopped some marks
on the counter. "Maybe next time will be your turn."
She took the empty mug and the marks and quickly brushed over his spot
with a rag, "I guess I'll have to find me a dragonrider then."
"Well, shouldn't be hard in a tavern like this," Daigoro assured her
with a wink. "Good night, Barthella."
