Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 12, day 23 of Turn 4
Striding down the hall, Sarban nodded to the folk he passed by. The weather wasn't going to be too lovely today, but they needed the rain, so he wasn't going to complain. Finally he reached the door he wanted. Sarban had an appointment to see the Hold's Healer.
"Enter." There wasn't a knock, but the door was propped slightly open and Miranek could see the shadow of a figure stop outside his door. Maybe there was an arm raised as though to knock, but this was pre-empting things.
The former sailor entered and nodded to the Master with deference. "Clear skies, Master Miranek. I believe we've an appointment."
"Sarban, isn't it?"
"Aye it is." Despite himself, Sarban was dressed in a rather subdued fashion. The comfortable clothes he favored were easier to walk in and weren't as hot in a sweltering south. With the day's rain, the humidity was not going to be welcome in the night.
"I was expecting you. We've a few things to discuss."
"Aye we certainly do. Would you like to do it here or over midday meal then?" Sarban was a man who didn't mind taking care of two things at once. "Either is fine by me."
"Perhaps over a meal might be an idea."
"Aye then, should I go reserve seats?" Sarban didn't know how long it would take before Miranek was ready.
"I'll see you in a few minutes, once I've gathered some things together." Sarban nodded, then left the healer's office. He made his way into the dining hall, greeting people he knew along the way. It wasn't hard to find two seats in a semi-secluded corner since many had not arrived yet. A drudge came by and he requested some water, juice, and some bread. Then, he went about organizing his hide, inkpot, and quill atop the table as he waited.
A stack of hides was deposited on the table as the Healer sat down. "This isn't as bad as it looks."
"Well that's a good thing..." The drudge returned and Sarban made his order, allowing the Master to make his before they got down to business.
"This is a list of our current stock," Miranek passed over a hide. "As you can see, we're low on the ones listed to the bottom, and I have here an order drafted to get some new supplies of those herbs."
Sarban pulled the hide over and perused it, nodding. "How long will it take for the Hall to send them over? Also, how many patients are you seeing now on average daily?" Not familiar with what Miranek did really, Sarban was quite curious.
He answered the first question. "It can take up to a sevenday for new supplies to arrive, but, as you can see we have at least enough to last for ten, maybe twelve days without an emergency. If we really needed something, then we'd have to raise a signal flag and ask for dragonrider help to get fresh supplies as quickly as possible. As for the number of patients, it tends to vary by the time of the turn. In winter we see more people with coughs and colds, summer we can see more people with accidents in the fields."
"Very well, on my end what will I be expected to assist you with, besides working with the Hall and Lord Corowal to see you have adequate staff and supplies?" Sarban raised his hand to make notes.
"Generally it's making sure that we can have meals and supplies for those who are on duty overnight. Other than that, we'll let you know."
"Thank you. I was wondering if there's an updated list as to which of our minor holds have healers and which require traveling healers from the main Hold?" Sarban was thinking about keeping track of the traveling crafters to set up a better system of communication.
"I can have that sent to you."
Nodding, he picked up his beverage and sipped, focusing again on his food for a time as he thought of other things he meant to ask about. "Out of curiosity, how often do we have serious cases of say, firehead or other harmful illnesses here?"
"Not once since I've been here, but that's no guarantee. Sometimes these things arrive suddenly."
"The only other thing I can think of is that I'd like to set up a standing meeting time once a sevenday for us to get together and talk about whatever comes up." Sarban glanced over at his schedule, wondering when would be a good time for the healer.
"The middle of the sevenday?" suggested the healer. "We could do it over a meal like this."
"I think that's a great idea. Middle of the sevenday it is at midday mealtime then." Sarban made a note in his schedule hide. "Well I suppose that's all I really had for now unless there's anything else you'd like to bring up." He'd finished his meal and knew it was time to get back to work soon.
"I think that's about all for now," said the Healer. "Until the next sevenday."
