Description: B'lamick asks Tey about the end of her weyrlinghood.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 12, day 6 of Turn 4
"So when's the big day?" B'lamick wondered as he met up with Tey after
drills.
"You know better than that. _After_ Blooding, and before the next
Threadfall, at a time to be determined by the staff. 'There is no
guaranteed date'" she intoned after the fashion of the Weyrlingstaff
members.
"Okay, so when are they Blooding you?" She had to be difficult about
this didn't she.
"Next Threadfall." She smirked at him. "Happy now?"
"It's better knowing at least." Happy wasn't really the word he would
have used. As much as he loved being a dragonrider and fighting thread,
he didn't particularly like the thought of Tey in danger up there with him.
"I might end up in your wing," she teased. "Flitting around, catching
the stuff that your less-than-agile dragon misses."
B'lamick snorted at her taunt, "You mean for the _third_ of Fall you're
actually in the air?" It would be fantastic though if she were in his wing.
"_Half_. We will be in the air for _half_ of 'Fall" She attempted to
look haughty, something her smiley, freckled face wasn't designed for.
"Plus a small amount of transit time."
"Because the transit time makes all the difference!" he rolled his eyes
then realized she was getting him off track. "Anyways, I just want you
to be careful when you get up there. I mean, I know you will, but it's
just exciting and confusing and stuff the first few times..."
Tey patted the young bronzerider's forearm reassuringly. "I know. I
come from a dragonriding family, B'lamick. I understand what it'll be
like."
"I know," he shrugged uncomfortable with talking about this but needing
to get it out. "you're probably more prepared than I was, I just want
you to know that I'm here if you need to talk to someone..."
"I do know that," she assured him. "No doubt my family will want to
have a bit of celebration in the dining cavern afterwards, if you'd like
to join us."
B'lamick looked at her a bit confused, "After graduation or blooding?"
"After Blooding. After graduation I'll be drinking more than I should
with my new wingmates. I hope." She eyed him suspiciously. "Isn't
that what happened to you when you graduated?"
"Well yeah, but..." and the bronzerider looked perplexed, "I guess it
must be a Weyr thing. It just seems a little odd for a family to throw
a 'yay, you didn't get mortally wounded' party.
"It's just a milestone, B'lamick."
He shrugged it off, any excuse for a party was good enough for him he
supposed. He might just have to make up some more on his own. "Okay
then, I'll be there. Do we get cake?"
"_Cake_?" Tey laughed. "No, but you can have seconds of whatever
they're serving that evening. We weren't allowed seconds except on
special occasions."
"Bubbly pies?" B'lamick suggested hopefully, "At my old hold, it wasn't
a proper celebration without one or the other."
"Well," Tey said, drawing the word out and tilting her hewad to one
side to smile at the young bronzerider, "If the kitchens have any, I
suppose we could ask. Specially for you."
B'lamick beamed, "You're the best Tey, you're the best!"
