"Hey...Figol." Jestyn trotted up to the harper's side and grinned at him. "You're with me during free time."
"What are we doing?" Figol wasn't surprised by Jestyn's claim on him, it was normal, like he didn't think Figol ever talked to anyone but him.
"You'll just have to wait and see." Jestyn playfully punched his companion in the arm, then turned around to walk backwards while speaking to him. "It's a surprise."
Figol frowned, the last surprise Jestyn gave him was a trip to the infirmary when they'd tumbled down a steep hill. "I don't like surprises," he mumbled as he watched Jestyn duck out of view.

"Boo!" Jestyn jumped out from around a door when he heard Figol walking down the hallway and grinned broadly at the younger man. "Ready for tonight, my friend?"
"Probably not since I don't know what it is we are doing." Figol replied, "But yeah, let's go."
"Don't worry, it's going to be fun!" Jestyn fairly danced out the door and into the evening air. He didn't say another word, but traversed the grounds, winding around and finally moving onto the beach at the very tip of the Weyr. From a distance, Figol could see two people, two young woman, standing and, evidently, waiting for them.
"Jestyn!" Figol hissed before the girls were in hearing range, "What are you doing!"
"Relax!" Jestyn clapped Figol on the side, not slowing in his pace. "We're going to have some fun tonight!"
Figol just grunted as he saw one of the girls wave in their direction. It wasn't that he was necessarily against meeting pretty girls, and for Jestyn's sake they'd better be pretty, he just liked to be able to _decide_ that he wanted to meet them instead of being tricked into it.
"Hi Jestyn," Carlie said with a shy smile.
"Hey Carlie." Jestyn's voice purred as he gave the girl a peck upon her cheek, then turned to Figol and the other girl who was eyeing Figol silently. "Figol, this is Sheste. Sheste, Figol."
"Hello." Sheste bobbed her head, then hesitated before she held out her hand in greeting, as if she wasn't sure this was what she should do.
Figol took her hand and resisted the urge to sigh. She wasn't bad looking, but fairly plain compared to Jestyn's girl. Maybe she'd surprise him though and be interesting to talk to, that was really the more important factor for an enjoyable evening. "Nice to meet you Sheste."
Carlie's smile grew as the two appeared amenable to each other, and she turned to Jestyn, "So, shall we go?"
"Yes." Jestyn sidled up to Carlie and slipped an arm around her shoulders. "Let's go."
Sheste glanced between her friend and Figol, her hand dropping to her side. "Yes, well...where are we going?"
"Just further down the beach. There's a nice little area about half a candlemark's walk from here."
Figol just nodded as he fell instep behind Jestyn and beside Sheste as they all started to walk. He thought he knew where they were being led. "We going to the tidal pools?"
"That we are, my friend!" Jestyn called back. His attention was quickly diverted to his lady friend and Figol was left alone to deal with Sheste.
She walked alongside the young man and, after a moment, she cleared her throat, "So...tell me something about yourself."
"Sorry," he apologized quickly, "I was just thinking about a tune I've been working on. My mind wanders like that sometimes. I'm an apprentice harper too," he added, then felt silly as his knots would easily identify him as such.
"Do you think you'll specialize in composition after you walk the tables?" Sheste liked music, but her talent went more toward art than the auditory practices.
Figol shook his head, embarrassed that she seemed to pick up on his private passion. "No, I'm not very good at that sort of thing, I just tune for fun. I'll probably specialize in gitar, that's why I was apprenticed in the first place."
"Maybe you can play for me." Sheste suggested, modifying her walk so that there was less space between the two of them. "I'm not much of a musician, but I do like to listen."
"It'd be my pleasure." he said with a slight bow. After a moment he added, "Your turn, something about yourself?"
"Well, I focus mainly on art." Sheste shrugged slightly. "I particularly enjoy molding clay and throwing pots."
He gave a slight bark of laughter, "Throwing pots? Do a lot of people make you mad or something?"
"No, that's what it's called when you make them, when you make clay pots." Sheste reached up and tossed a strand of hair behind her shoulder. "You call it throwing pots."
Figol thought it was an awful odd phrase, but just chuckled, "If you say so."
"I can show you some time if you like," Sheste suggested. She supposed the term was rather strange. She had certainly thought so when she had first been shown when she was merely eight. Now it didn't seem so strange any more. "I can even make you one if you like. It's not journeyman quality, but I'm decent I think."
"Oh, a trade then?" he said lightly with a grin, "Apprentice wares for apprentice services?"
"Well, you can owe me." Sheste offered him a lazy smile. "And if I need services later on, I'll be sure to let you know."
If he didn't appreciate her confidence, he'd be a little insulted that she didn't think his gitar skills as fine as her throwing, but as it was he just smiled back, "It's a deal."
