K'reyel

K'reyel

It had taken U'das a while to locate the Weyrleader from the Hatching
feast. "Hi, K'reyel, congratulations! A good distripution of colours,"
he said.

"Indeed," K'reyel glanced over to one of the new bronzeriders, a look of awe
on the lad's face. "They all look so happy now, I wonder if we were the
same."

"We probably were," U'das said, looking the same weyrling.

"Although I will need to go and find my daughter later," said K'reyel.
"Today was her first time on the sands and she didn't Impress."

"A first time, eh. How old is she?" U'das asked. You could never
presume you knew; some weyrbrat stood as soon as they were old enough,
some waited few more turns untill they entered the Sands for the first
time.

"Twelve turns, just."

U'das nodded. He had grandchildren that were older!

"I'm sure she'll try again another time, but only if she wants to." One of
his siblings had tried once, then decided they'd make a far better crafter
than rider.

"I have a one child who choose craft over dragonriding," U'das remarked.

"My brother chose to be a harper instead," replied K'reyel understanding.
"And if a craft is what Reyela wants, then she can have that."

"Then you are better father than I was. I confess being disappointed
when Seludasjan didn't impress and didn't even want to stand. We
stopped talking to each other for Turns. Well, that's been corrected
since then," the older bronze rider said sadly.

"At least you can speak to him now."

"Yes," U'das cheered up. "So, have you congratulated all the riders
yet?" he asked. "That has always been my favourite part of Hatching
feast."

"Yes, and they all seemed so young, and so happy. I wonder if I was like
that too."

"Probably were. In my case, I was wondering what to do with a bronze
and try to avoid my cousin who was for some reason angry at me because
he had impressed a brown."

"In my case it was my older brother, I was avoiding - he'd impressed brown
too and had suggested that I might only get a blue."

"Colour envy. No matter what, it always rears up it's ungly head,"
U'das remarked.

"But in the ends when you see their faces you realise it doesn't matter."

"So true," U'das agreed.

"And with that, I must go speak to those who didn't Impress, and remind them
of the same. That it doesn't matter they are still candidates as their
dragons have yet to be shelled."

"Good luck with that, it can be tough," U'das said symphatically.

"Well hopefully they will get over it soon enough."

"There's always the next hatching," U'das remarked.

"And that will be sooned than they think, it always is."
