The Hallsecond raised her hand to knock on the door. The healer had only said that she could have a few minutes, if nothing else time to say hello.
And with that, she tapped smartly on the door.
"Thanja, what a welcome surprise, thank you for the visit." Mosler said, glad to see anyone who wasn't a healer.
"The least I could do is stop by and see how you are. That healer out there said you gave the Hallfolk quite a scare," she said.
Mosler snorted and waved off the idea. "The healers like to over exaggerate things. It was just another small incident."
"But bad enough to have you laid up, or are they just being cautious?"
He frowned, "Actually, they're trying to get rid of me." he confessed.
"I'm having to step down as Hallmaster."
"Permanently, or until you have recovered?" she had to ask. Stepping down for a period of time was one thing, you could count the days until you could get back to work, but permanently was a whole other thing entirely.
He sighed. He hadn't talked to many people about his unexpected retirement, but he knew the word was filtering through the hall and it would only be a matter of time before it reached over to the Weyr. "I think the healers are pretty serious about it being permanent. They seem to feel that if I keep working I'll keep having incidents until it finally does me in. Of course I told them it was all nonsense, but you know how they can be..."
She stayed quiet for a moment, taking those words in. "Will you stay here at Dolphin Cove?"
"It's my home." he said with a shrug. "Plus Calla would be pretty upset with me if we relocated, she's fond of this place."
"I think we'd all miss you," she said. "Besides you could still teach a class or two."
Mosler sighed and shook his head. "If only. They're not even budging at that. They said _maybe_ in a turn or two if I don't have any more incidents. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with myself."
"Relax, spend time with your boy?" she suggested.
He snorted, "More likely just being an nuisance to everyone as I get in the way. You know I'm not even allowed to _swim_ for another month!"
"You can at least spend time with Calla though?"
"Yes, from the dock." he had compromised for at least that much, "as long as I'm sitting, and I can't even play recovery games with her." The healer had come back and made that amendment after he'd seen some of the apprentices hurling rings and other equipment out for the dolphins to retrieve.
"I'm sure you'll get well again."
Mosler grinned, "You bed I will, if for no other reason than to annoy the healers."
Thanja laughed. "I can believe that."
