Characters: Alydelle, Mordin
Description: Alydelle meets Mordin while on the beach.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 10, day 24 of Turn 4

It was free time and Alydelle found herself at the sea. She didn't go in, not wanting to get wet before bed, but she just wanted to watch the waves and listen to the chatter of the dolphins. The sound of them made her smile and she sighed happily.

Mordin had been down at the beach area working on one of the small skiff's at the dock when he saw the girl arrive on the beach. She must be relatively new at the Hall - least ways he hadn't seen her around before. But then again, unless a girl was pretty enough for him, he rarely noted their presence. He stood and stretched, casting his gaze around the almost empty beach - apart from a dolphineer pair further down the beach, they were alone - just he and the lone girl.

He could hear her let out a sigh and then a moment later, she scrambled to her feet. Alydelle brushed as much sand off of her as she could and headed back toward the Hall. She glanced over at the figure, the man that stood there, but her gaze didn't linger long. Instead she ducked her head, as if trying to avoid getting his attention and moved past him.

"You don't have to rush off..." he said, walking towards her, "I don't bite."

The girl paused and stumbled over her own two feet. She looked up at the man, a journeyman by his knots, then looked around. There was no one else close enough to speak to, so he must have spoken to her. The girl glanced back towards the Hall, then evidently decided that it would be best to be polite, though she didn't let her gaze return to the man. "H'lo."

"You don't have to leave the beach you know." he said coming closer, her plain looks would have been a put off to him less than a turn ago, but now - things had changed lately, and even the most homely girl would do in a pinch - and he was certainly in a pinch now. "My name's Mordin, and yours is?" he asked, flashing her a wide, handsome smile -
a smile many of the women in the Hall found sickening, but one he knew many of the younger women still found attractive.

The girl's gaze darted up, then down, then up again. When she looked up the second time, a small smile accompanied it. He wasn't picking on her, calling her names. It was...a pleasant change. "I'm Alydelle...but most people just call me Aly."

"Well Aly, don't let me chase you from the beach. It's a pleasant afternoon and such a day should be spent in pleasant surroundings." he glanced around, still no one was here, which meant no one could warn her about him. All to the good.

"Oh...no, it's not that." Aly shook her head. "You didn't...I mean, you aren't...it's just, it's almost time for dinner."

"I didn't? I'm not?" he gave her his most disarming smile. "You don't like my company?" he pouted playfully.

"Oh, I didn't mean to indicate that I didn't!" The girl flushed and fidgeted in place. "I just meant that you weren't chasing me from the beach." Another furtive glance was cast in the direction of the Hall.
"I just don't want to be late and get into trouble."

"Oh phew! That's a relief." he joked, "I thought it was me you didn't like." He walked along beside her, "Well, I can't keep you if you're hurrying away to stay out of trouble, but ... if you're not busy after the evening meal - may be you'd like to come back down to the beach for an evening walk - with me?"

"Me?" Someone, well, a _guy_ wanted her to go on a walk with him? "Um, sure...I have study period after dinner, but I have some free time after that."

"I'll meet you down here, after the evening meal then?" once more he flashed her a wide, white, even smile. Better he organize to meet her down here on the beach where there'd be less chance of them being spotted together and her receive any warnings, he thought to himself as his eyes held hers for a moment longer.

"O...okay." Alydelle's hands fluttered together behind her back, and her eyes darted about. She wasn't used to get any attention a fellow - at least, any attention that she would _want_ to receive. She hesitated, switching from foot to foot, then lifting a hand to wave before turning and making her way back to the hall, walking at first, then moving into a brisk trot.
