The blue that flew overhead and landed not too far away was a familiar one. Kitali had been on her way to the lower caverns, but when she saw a familiar dragon ridden by a familiar friend, she paused, then made her way over to him.
She wasn't really sure why. It wasn't like she and E'rae didn't see each other from time to time - though it had been a while since they had last spoken. Maybe it was because she felt like she needed to talk to someone-to someone who might be able to give her a better perspective. Kitali paused at the feet of the blue, small compared to gold or bronze, or even brown, but huge to her. She smiled up at the rider, waving, then waited until he dismounted to speak. "Hey E'rae.
How goes it?"
He unstrapped his helmet and held it at his side, ruffling his hair. "Well enough for now. And for you?"
He patted Leith's side, promising the dragon that he would not take too long, knowing he wanted out of his straps. "I was just going to pick up a few things from stores."
"I'm...okay." Well, it wasn't a complete lie. It wasn't the complete truth either. "Been busy...trying to stay busy."
"Oh aye? How come?" He gestured for her to walk with him, if she didn't mind.
Kitali sighed softly. "Well, you know M'van and I have been having...issues." Her expression fell as she spoke and her voice grew a bit softer. "Evidently, M'van is of the mind that it's over, completely."
Not exactly one to engage in relationships, E'rae didn't exactly know what to say. This was female territory to him. "Why's that?"
Kitali shrugged, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Evidently he no longer has feelings for me. He never could understand things with me. With...well...I guess certain aspects of the Weyr were harder to get used to than I thought they would be, especially when they were more personal after being with him."
"Well if he's of the mind that it's over, what are you of the mind of?" When he reached the entrance to the Lower Caverns, he paused for a moment, then continued in the direction he needed. He just needed quick permission from one of the Headwoman's staff to get what he needed, then he'd pick the things up.
Kitali swallowed, looking down at the ground and watching her feet as they took each step. "I didn't want it to be over. I just needed some time, some time to process things. There were things I never really thought about until they affected me personally and I found myself...well, I just needed time. Of course, that wasn't the only thing. He was working on his Mastery, and I was alone so much. I had to think about that too...I mean..."
Kitali realized she was saying too much, babbling. "I don't want it to be over. I love him." Even after that, she did. She was angry at him, but she still loved him dearly.
Women always said too much when if they were honest, they could have said what they were trying to get across in about two or three words most of the time.
"Did you tell him that?"
"I don't think it would matter if I did. I've told him how I felt, he knows." Kitali shook his head. "He doesn't care." She went silent for a moment, mulling over her thoughts before asking, "Was it as hard for you? Getting used to the way things worked in the Weyr as opposed to the hold?"
"At first, aye...but once I Impressed it made it easier since I didn't really have a choice." He shrugged, seeing they had finally arrived. He searched about for someone he could ask. "There are also different degrees of Weyrlife though. Not everyone sleeps with everyone they can get their hands on. Just like not everyone has children."
"I know." Kitali shook her head. She didn't think E'rae quite understood. "I never said everyone did.
It's just...there are some things that took more getting used to than others. It was just hard for me and M'van didn't understand at all."
"Then maybe, hard as it is to contemplate it..he's not the mate for you. Perhaps you should start working now to move forward." E'rae was a man-he offered solutions.
Kitali sighed and nodded. "You're probably right." She looked up at him, giving him a tiny smile. "Thanks for talking to me. I know you're not keen on it, but it was nice getting some things off my chest."
Finally someone came forward and he let them know what he wanted, then he waited as they checked whatever they needed to. "You're welcome though you're right.
Romance and all that is not me."
"Well, at the moment," Kitali stated, her voice a bit sour. "You aren't the only one."
