Description: Venicel and her father speak to Zandreu about a job at the Tavern for her.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 10, day 18 of Turn 4
When Venciel took up the matter of her getting a job with her family, her father Kedvenc was first against it, especially if it was in Tavern.
He doubted it were a proper place to a young woman, with people coming there to drink, and dragonriders visiting it frequently. But Venny was nothing but stubborn and she could be persuasive too. She finally managed to convince him to at least to go to meet the Tavern Master with her.
"Good morning, Master Zandreu, do you remember me?" She greeted the Tavern Master when they entered his office.
"I do," Zandreu said, nodding at the young woman and eyeing the older man with her. He should be her father, by rights. "I'm Zandreu, the Tavern Master here," he said, introducing himself to the man.
"I'm Kedvenc," the man replied. He had no title to give, since he was just an non-craft farm-worker. He was one of those people who had aged before their time, downtrodden by hardships of life.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," the Tavern Master said easily. "Your daughter seems to want to work here. Are you happy for her to do so?"
"Well, I don't mind her getting a job, I'm just bit hesitant it to be in the Tavern. It doesn't seem like a proper place for a young woman.
Indecent folk coming here to drink and harass her," Kedvenc replied.
"None of that is tolerated in this Tavern. Well, not the harassment of any of the staff, but especially the young women working here. We're here so that people can socialise with a drink or two, but we encourage people to visit for the music and the meals and the company, not for a drunken night out."
"I told you so," Venny murmured to her father.
Kedvenc grunted. "How much would you pay for her and what kind of work you have for her?"
Zandreu mentioned the mark wage for a starting position in the kitchens.
"She would get her midday meal provided, and either breakfast or the evening meal if she was working early or late. The work would be in the kitchens to start, drudge work," he explained, "but the better she does at that the more work will be opened up to her, including waiting on tables."
A light of greediness lit to Kedvenc's eyes when he heard the sum. It would be welcome addition to the family, with its ever growing number of hungry mouths to feed. The pay was actually better than what she would have in the Hold's kitchens.
"Well, then, if it's a kitchen work," he said grudgingly and glanced his daughter. "Still want it?"
"Yes, I do," Venny replied firmly.
"All right, then. Barthella, the head cook, we'll have a month's trial.
Barthella, the head cook, will make the final decision about whether you can stay. She is directly in charge of the non-crafter staff."
Venciel nodded and smiled. "When do I start?" she asked eagerly.
"Tomorrow morning sounds like soon enough," the Tavern Master said, giving himself enough time to mention the new staff-member to the cook.
"Make sure you're here as soon as your breakfast is done and report to me. I'll introduce you to Barthella."
"Yes, sir! Thank you, master Zandreu!" Venny said cheerfully.
"You're welcome," the master vintner said with a smile.
