Description: Aivorn takes the injured jockeys to Miranek.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 9, day 7 of Turn 4
Aivorn escorted the injured jockeys to the infirmary, following the stretchers. The snow had really messed up things and caused two runners to collide and fall. He was seriously considering cancelling the race. Or at least recommend it to the Lord Holder. But the races had collected more people than expected and they would all be disappointed and angry. It was a tough choice. Angering hundreds of people by cancelling the race or risking more injuries if the weather kept getting worse.
As the injured were shown to the infirmary it was obvious what had happened.
Falls, possibly a collision of the runners. Miranek had not been to see the races himself, being concerned with making sure the infirmary was prepared, and now it seemed he had been well advised to do so.
The two jockeys' were lifted from stretchers to infirmary tables.
"Miranek. I brought you patients." Aivorn greeted shortly.
"So I see, what happened to them?"
"The snow turned the racing track to slippery mud gruel. One runner lost it's footing and collided with another one," Aivorn told him.
"These two were the riders I take it," asked the healer as he quickly washed his hands. "They fell?"
"Yes. That one was pinned under his runner," Aivorn said and pointed the more severely injured rider.
"For a long time?" asked the healer as he moved over to the man in question.
His clothing was ripped, and he gestured to another healer to come and help him remove it.
"I had staff there as soon as possibly. About fifteen to twenty minutes most," Aivorn tried to estimate the time until they had gotten the man out under the runner. The beast was probably goner too, but that was the beasthealer's problem (and the runner's owner's).
As the clothing came off, they could see from the way his leg was that there was a rather nasty looking break. Fortunately it was not a compound fracture which could be truly dangerous if dirt and blood from the runner had got into it. The rider was groggy, but seemed to respond to seeing the healers there.
Aivorn gave it a quick glance. "He's out of his feet for a while."
"I'd agree with that, he's going to need a splint, and we'll keep him under observation to make sure that nothing more serious is going on."
"What's wrong with the other?" asked Miranek.
"Probably just got the wind knocked out of him when he fell," Aivorn said.
"He doesn't seem to have any broken bones, and he's been conscious whole the time."
Miranek gestured to the journeyman also on duty to deal with the other jockey. "They'll get good care here."
"I'm sure you do," Aivorn said with a trust.
"Only the best for Emerald Falls."
"I'll go to tell the Lord Holder," Aivorn said. He patted the injured jockey's shoulder and said gruffly: "And you'll just rest and get better."
