K'reyel

K'reyel

Tamah gave the new Weyrleader properly time to settle in to his new office before he approached him. Meanwhile, the river's surface was still getting lower and even the technicians had started to worry. If the water level dropped enough, the power plant would stop when the turbines didn't have enough water to generate electricity.

"Come in," K'reyel had the office door open and he could see the man approaching. "It's Tamah, isn't it?"

"Yes it is. I'm the Harbour master," Tamah replied, in case he didn't know. He was young one, this new Weyrleader. At least K'sedel and U'das before him had been older, experienced ones.

"What can I do for you?" asked K'reyel politely.

"There's a bit of a problem with the Dragon River. You father and I were making plans to deal with it but then Tabanirth rose and you know what happened next..."

"Indeed," agreed K'reyel. "I'm here, and he's not. But there is still a problem with the river?"

Tamah explained how he had discovered the storm created dam and what they had planned to do with it. "It's not terribly urgent, but at this rate, there won't be enough water to run the power plant," he concluded his story.

"And that could cause some major disruption," thought K'reyel aloud. "To the infirmary, to everywhere here and along the river."

"Exactly. Luckily, the water level is dropping slowly, but we better act before we have angry technicians yelling at us. Not to mention that a storm could break that dam and create a dangerous surge."

"How would you recommend we deal with it?"

"Two big, strong dragon's to pull the tree trunk off the river, few men with nets to clear away the smaller debris and few fast dragons to warn the people downriver. The river and weyrlake should be empty of people and dragons during the operation."

"I can organise that, a couple of bronze or browns to do the heavy work, and some of the speedier greens to run messenger and emergency transport duty in case anyone doesn't listen."

Tamah nodded and smiled. "The sooner the better, it keeps bugging me until it's dealt with."

"How about the first day of the next sevenday?"

"Monsoon Racer is due then. The next day after that?"

"That works," the Weyrleader grabbed a hide with a calendar written on it.
"There are drills until midday, so after the noon meal?"

Tamah nodded. "That should be a good time for it."

"Do you need me to assign you some riders to run messages to the holders along the way?"

"Yes, sir," Tamah grinned.

"I'll make sure that happens."

Tamah nodded. "Good."
