"Is he okay?" the bluerider asked as he saw the Harper leading the small boy away from the Infirmary.

"Oh, hello M'van." Kitali was rather surprised to see the bluerider there. She looked down at her son who smiled as soon as he saw his father and pulled away to run over. "Daddy!"

"He's fine for the most part." Kitali continued, watching them. "He just has an ear infection. It's nothing serious."

"You're sure?" he asked as he knelt down to get onto his son's level.

"Yes, I'm sure." What, did he think that she would be neglectful of her son? That she wouldn't make sure there was more to his discomfort?
Kitali sighed softly. "It's an ear infection. The healer gave me some drops to put in his ears."

The words didn't stop M'van having a quick look himself as Talvan came closer for a hug. His studies of human healing might have been many turns ago, but it didn't take much to see the boy fiddling with his ears and their slight reddening. "Does it hurt?" he asked.

"Well, he's been very cranky, so I would say yes." Kitali crossed her arms and shrugged. "He's also run a low grade fever this morning, so I brought him in. She said he'll be fine in a couple of days."

"Did they give him anything for the fever?"

"Yes, she did." Kitali understood his concern, but she really wished M'van had more faith in the healers. At least he was concerned though.
She had heard of some dragonriders who didn't really pay much if any attention to their children. "Did you just happen to be passing by?" She asked casually.

"I was on my way to drills," he explained. And the Wingleader had better accept the explanation of him checking on his son at the healers as a reason for being a moment or two late. Besides, the fact he had a riding jacket with him should have been enough of a clue.

"I see." Kitali stepped forward and reached for her son. "I guess I'll let you get on your way then. I don't want you to get into trouble."

"I'll come and check on him later if that's okay with you?"

"Of course, M'van." Kitali gathered Talvan in her arms and offered a small smile. "You're more than welcome to see the children any time. I would never deny you that." She paused for just a moment, then added, "Perhaps we could take the children on a picnic some time. I think they would like that."

"They might indeed," he said with a small smile. "But I do have to go now."

Kitali nodded. "All right. I'll see you later then." The harper watched him go and then heaved another sigh. He had given her a small smile in return. It wasn't much, but it was something."
