Corowal rushed into the infirmary."What happened? Is my son all right?" he demanded to known. He had been outside, checking preparations for the races, when drudge had finally caught up with him and told him about Corofel's accident.
"He'll be fine sir," assured the Healer. "I'd imagine he'll have a sore head for a while, but he's going to be fine. You might want to keep an eye on him for a few days, try and keep him from things too energetic and let him rest."
"What exactly happened?" Corowal asked, with more calm tone. He gave his son a brief hug and long searching look. Corofel looked miserable and guilty.
"He fell," explained Miranek simply. The fact that he and his friend had been caught out planning mischief by the Headwoman didn't need to come from him. "A nasty bump to the head, he's been lucky not to need stitches. It does look a lot worse than it is, head wounds can bleed a lot."
"The ladder fell and I landed over Tengil," Corofel finally told his father.
Corowal noticed the splint around the other boys ankle. "How badly he is hurt?" he asked Miranek.
"He's broken his ankle. Fortunately for the lad it's a clean break. He'll be splinted up and off that leg for the next ten to twelve sevendays. He'll heal, but slowly," explained the Healer.
"Exactly what were you two doing with the ladder?" Corowal asked from his son, crossing his arms over his chest.
Slowly, word by word, he got the story dragged out from Corofel.
"I've done my share of pranks when I was child but I never _ever_ got anybody hurt!"
"The main thing is that both of them will recover," stated the Healer.
"Although I'd imagine that Vanea can find them some suitable chores for this."
"I bet she does," Corowal growled. "I think you owe a Tengil's mother an apology for getting him hurt," he said to his son. Corofel hung his head and looked miserable.
"I'll give you a tea for your son sir, in case he gets a headache. If he does, and the tea doesn't help, bring him straight back here to get checked over again. The other lad will be staying with us for a couple of nights, so whoever is on duty will be watching him."
Corowel nodded to indicate he had understood. "Seems like we are keeping you busy here."
"It's my craft."
"You couldn't have picked a worst time, with the races coming soon,"
Corowal said to his son before turning back to the healer. "So, I can take him home with me?"
"Yes, but he's to rest."
"All right. But we are going to have a serious discussion about this later, Corofel." Corowal said sternly.
