Lear to be ladylike

Writers: Dana, Paula
Date Posted: 17th October 2005

Characters: Aivorn, Fayne
Description: Aivorn has a favour to ask from Fayne, conserning his daughter.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 8, day 15 of Turn 3

"But daddy, it's boring!" the girl, actually a young woman, protested.

"So what? You have certain duties, as a master crafter's daughter. Now, shush!" Aivorn said and knocked the Headwoman's door.

"Come in!" Fayne called from behind her desk, looking up from the hides spread out in front of her as the door opened.

"Do you have a moment? I have a favour to ask. Have you met my daughter, Aishara?" Aivorn asked and introduced his daughter. She gave the Headwoman a curtsy and pretty smile.

Fayne smiled back and stood. "It's nice to meet you, Aishara."

"Likewise" Aishara replied.

"Well, Ais is the reason why we are here," Aivorn said and suddenly he didn't know how to approach the matter.

Fayne took her seat and gestured for the other two to sit down. "What can I help you both with, Aivorn?"

"Well, as you should know, I've been raising her almost by myself and Aishara's upbringing is ...unconventional. She has spent more time in stables with me than your average hold girl. Since I had these master's knots, she should be learning more..." Aivorn had to stop to search for right expression. He was out of his depth here. "...feminine skills. And spend more time in the ladies solar. You know, to learn how to act ladylike."

She smiled. "I see..." Fayne knew what a woman's place was in both Hold and Hall. And she also knew that to attract possible suitors, a woman had to know and be able to do certain things. She glanced at the girl, wondering what she thought of all of this.

Aishara was actually making disgusted faced behind her father's back, when she realized that Fayne was looking at her. She blushed, looking embarrassed.

Amused, Fayne gave the girl the barest of winks before turning her attention back to Aivorn. While she didn't necessarily agree with how Aishara had been raised, she couldn't blame the girl. Fayne was quite sure that if she had been in Aishara's place, she would be reacting the same way. "Are you asking me to reccommend someone suitable for your daughter to shadow?"

"Yes, and if you could keep an eye on her, so she doesn't sneak away when no ones looking?" Aivorn replied and asked.

Fayne smiled at him. "I'll do what I can on that score, Aivorn." She was a very busy woman, after all, and didn't have time to personally keep an eye on the girl. Aishara should be old enough to know that to sneak off would be rude to Fayne herself, the woman who would be teaching her, and her father. But the Headwoman would make note to check up on the girl every now and again when she had a few moments to spare. "I'll talk to a few of the women I know and see if one can take Aishara under her wing. And I'm sure one of them would love to."

"Thank you, Fayne. I appreciate this. I know it means extra work for you," Aivorn sounded grateful.

"You're welcome," she smiled. "If there's anything else you need, just let me know."

"Of course. It's always pleasure to deal with you" Aivorn answered politely. He stood up. "We won't take more your time."

"I'm sure we will meet again, ma'am" Aishara said. She knew they would.
