His shift felt as though it had ended too quickly. It had been a good evening - not so fast that he felt rushed and hurried, and not so slow that the candlemarks had dragged on. M'galec found that he was suprisingly energetic for the end of the day. He was in for an even bigger surprise when he turned the corner down to his weyr and found a kindred spirit standing outside his door. "Eri?"
"Hello, M'galec." she greeted him. "I knocked but you weren't in, so I thought I would wait for you." She really should have had Avesith ask, but then Dwarkanath might have told M'galec, and she had wanted to surprise him.
"I hope you were not waiting long..." The bronzerider suspected she hadn't been, considering he had left the infirmary at exactly the right time for once.
"Not particularly. My own shift finished not that long ago." she explained. "It hasn't been more than a few minutes."
"Ah, well, forgive me for making you wait! To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" he asked as he unlocked the door and indicated that he would follow her inside. He had a smug feeling he knew why she was here, though he had hoped she wouldn't figure it out quite so quickly.
"A certain book that wound up in my possession somehow." she answered over her shoulder as she walked inside. "I'm impressed, by the way. I didn't know anyone knew it was my birthingday- and it was a very nice gift."
"And you suspect me?" he asked innocently, inwardly pleased she had liked it so much. It actually had been very easy to find her birthday considering it was in her medical records, which he also now had memorized. The book had taken a slight bit longer to find.
"Unless I was having a discourse with someone else on the same topic, which I find highly unlikely. I don't know who else would give me such a book."
"Perhaps it was someone you were formally aquainted with?" the Healer suggested as he walked over to his wine cabinet. He had saved a bottle just in case she had shown up at his door.
"Possibly." she replied. "But my instincts tell me that it was you."
"And do you always trust your instincts?" he asked as he pulled out a cork screw.
"They tend to serve me well." There had been times when they'd faltered, but generally they did. "What about yours?"
"Before my Weyrmating I thought they were infallable. Now..." He shrugged as he pulled the cork smoothly out of the bottle. "Let us just say, I am a little more cautious."
"They seem to be doing quite well, so I wouldn't be too prudent." she told him. "So, how was your day?"
"Oh, the usual. Instructing our future wingriders, treating the wounded and sick," he said with a nonchalant wave of his hand. "Just a typical day really, nothing special."
"Other than finding time to sneak a present onto my desk, it seems it was routine. Not that my day was any different. I preferred to treat it as a workday while on duty; but now that it's night, I confess that I'm glad someone noticed." It was nice to be remembered.
"How could anyone fail to notice you, Master Dragonhealer?" M'galec smiled as he handed her a glass of fine red wine.
"I'm sure I'm not _that_ well known yet." she demurred. It had only been a few months since she arrived, and she certainly hadn't met everyone yet. "But it's nice to know such a considerate friend."
"You flatter me, Eri," the bronzerider said with a rather pleased grin.
"Shall we toast to you and to another fabulous turn?"
"It seems appropriate to the moment." she said with an asnwering smile.
She appreciated his efforts, and made a mental note to find out when his birthingday was so she could treat him. For tonight, though, she resolved to enjoy the new company and toast her new turn.
