Kitali took several deep breathes before she stepped into the weyr. This was not something she was looking forward to, but if they were going to work things out, she was going to have to make the first move. Even after she took the first step, she hesitated. Was he still angry? She wouldn't blame him if he was. Would he be willing to forgive her? She hoped he would. Of course, if he still held onto any anger...well, she wouldn't be able to find out unless she talked to him.
The harper shook her head and forced herself forward and into the weyr.
No more hesitation. Nothing was going to get down without a step forward. "M'van?" Her voice was soft, too soft really. She cleared her throat, then called again a little louder. "M'van? Are you here?"
At first there was silence, but then that silence was broken as the bluerider emerged from the sleeping area. A wary look crossed his face. What was _she_ doing here? "You're back."
Well, it wasn't the warmest reception he could have given, but at least he didn't immediately throw her out. Kitali nodded slowly, her hands playing at one another. "Could we talk?"
"I don't know that there is anything left to say," he said.
"There is for me." Kitali took a deep breath. She had been thinking of what she was going to say for over a sevenday. She was, in general, not bad at putting words together. Certainly she had come up with quite a verbose statement that she would hope gain M'van's attention and incline her to forgiving him. Those words that she had rattled round and round her head for those days, however, flew from her when faced with the bluerider and all she could manage was a soft, but sincere, "I'm sorry."
"You're sorry?" he repeated. "Sorry for the arguments, sorry for upsetting the children - they knew things were not right with us, sorry for leaving?"
"Yes." Her throat became dry something and her heart pounded. This was not going like she had hoped, though really, what could she truly expect? "I'm sorry for hurting you and the children. I'm sorry for being stupid. I'm sorry, M'van."
"Where are they?" he asked.
"They'll be here next sevenday. I...I was hoping to have the chance to talk with you alone." Her hands played with one another. "If you want, I can ask my parents to bring them sooner."
It would be nice to see them again. Even though Kiloth would have taken him anytime he was free, it was the thought of running into Kitali when he wasn't sure he was ready to even try to talk to her just yet that had stopped him. "Let them come then," he settled for saying, aware it was brief.
Kitali nodded slowly. "I'll send them a message and let you know as soon as they get here." So that was that? M'van wasn't offering anything. Nothing. Not even a 'let's see how things go'. Perhaps that was his way of saying things were over. "I'll um...I'll just go." She lifted her hand in a small wave, feeling rather silly over gesture and turned to leave, swallowing a heavy sigh.
"That might be a good idea." There was so much he wanted to say, but he knew if he just let it out it would come out wrong, and be all accusatory. It took two to argue, but he had tried to make his point, and she hadn't seemed to listen.
