Description: Almonteo has a surprise visitor.
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 8, day 6 of Turn 4
The man leaned againts the Hallmaster's locked door, waiting him to show up. He was lean, broadshouldered, weather beaten man with untrimmed, coppar-red and silver- hair, few days stubble on his deep lined-face and his traveller's clothes that were dusty. Sturdy boots were covered with dried mud. He wore the blue harper knots of master-rank, but they were almost invisible under the cover of road-dirt.
Almonteo was rather surprised at the sight of the rather unkempt man standing beside his door. He cocked his head to the side in slight confusion. "Master Endras?"
"Hello, Hallmaster Almonteo. Long time no see. I thought it was high time for me to show my face around here," the traveller replied with a lopsided grin.
"I'm sorry, did we meet before?" The man didn't _look_ familiar. The name vaguely rang a bell...
"We have met in passing over the turns. Of course, I've been on the road past few turns," Endras replied. "My songs are more famous than me," the composer chuckled.
"At the Main Crafthall?" Almonteo could not remember meeting him in the last turn since coming to this Hall as Hallmaster.
"There too," Endras nodded. His main posting had been at the Emerald Falls' Harper hall, but had ofted visited the other ones.
"You do get around then. Please," the Hallmaster said, gesturing that he would follow the man into his office.
Endras nodded and followed the Hallmaster's lead.
Almonteo closed the door behind them and gestured to one of the chairs.
"Are you just checking in then?"
"Mostly. I've been neglecting my children the past turns. And I brought some new works of mine, which should please master Eilomar,"
Endras replied.
"Oh yes, he is always looking for inspirarion," the Hallmaster smiled, followed by the secret comment **Especially since that man seem to posses very little of his own...** "Who are your children, then?"
"Enilda is an apprentice here and Endras is apprenticed at the dophin hall near by," Endras replied.
"Ah yes, Enilda." Almonteo smiled as he recognized the name. And yes, he could see a little of the man in her now that he had a chance to really look at him. "Well, I can understand now where she got her talent from. You must be proud."
"I am, and happy that you accepted her as an apprentice nowadays,"
Endras smiled.
The Hallmaster nodded. "Well, I am of the age where I still remember a time when female crafters in _all_ Halls were the usual."
"So do I, although I was much younger at that time," Endras grinned.
"Oh, and here the new works of mine. They should please Eilomar, just his style."
"Oh? Choral music?"
Endras nodded. "I've always had this flair for grandious music for choirs and large orchestras. The more the better," the composer grinned. "I leave the easy, catchy ballads or dance tunes to other composers."
"And we appreciate it." Especially since Almonteo was just such a composer. "I was never much use at writing choral music for the masses."
"We all have our specialties. It just happens to be mine." He pulled a rolled up hide from his pocket. "Here it is," he handed it to the hallmaster. "Have it copied around. I think I go to clean myself up before meeting my children."
"Yes, of course," the Hallmaster nodded as he curiously unrolled the hide. It was always fun to open a new piece of music for the first time. "We shall have to find a perfect occassion to showcase your music. Perhaps we can even bring you back to hear it performed."
"Thinking about reassigning me?" Endras asked mildly.
Almonteo could understand if the man needed to be closer to his family, but his children were old enough to be on their own. "We could always use more composition teachers if you want to take up the challenge.
However if you're happy in the assignment you're in..."
"I'm happy with the current situation," Endras assured him.
"Then we will not change it." The man must have his reasons.
Wonderlust? Inspiration? No one knew but him, and Almonteo would not pry.
Endras nodded. "I'll be around for few sevendays before setting out again."
"Please feel free to sit in on a few classes while you are here. I'm sure everyone could benefit from a man of your expertise."
"I'm just might do that when I get bored with the inactivity," Endras grinned.
"Well, I shall have one of my apprentices show you to the bathing chamber. I'm sure you will be wanting to see your children as soon as possible," the Hallmaster said, rising to his feet.
"Thank you, hallmaster, it was a pleasure to meet you," Endras replied.
