Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 6, day 4 of Turn 4

Kyselen hummed as she worked, her knitting needles practically blurring. She was making a scarf. The nights were so cold this time of year and her Rothen seemed to draw the night sift more often than not.
He really should speak with someone about that, but it probably hadn't occurred to him. He was a dear boy, but he had much too much on his mind.

"That's coming along nicely," Iadell said, nodding toward the scarf.

Nodding her thanks, Kyselen replied, "It's for my boy, Rothen. I just hope I don't run out of this nice blue." With a quick gesture, she pointed out the spool of blue yarn which was rapidly running low.

Iadell glanced between the spool and the finished part of the scarf.
"I think you should make it. And if not, you could have it blend to another shade on the ends."

"True, true." She examined the scarf, thinking that perhaps having the blue fade into black would be quite fetching anyway. Perhaps she wouldn't wait for the blue to run out to begin working black into the scarf. As she worked, she noticed a group of children playing nearby.
"Is your girl in with them?" She pointed towards the group with her chin, needles not pausing a bit.

Iadell looked over at them and smiled warmly. "Yes, Fellia is with them. She seems to be settling in much better now."

"The younger, the better for that sort of thing. My youngest girl was always the first to try something new of all my children when they were little." Kyselen smiled, adding, "It was good of you, taking that one in."

"I think, really, that we took each other in." Iadell smiled warmly.

"Children are a marvel. I miss mine being that young," Kyselen sighed wistfully, memories playing in her mind. "They grow up too fast!"

"Yes, they do." Iadell picked up her own work, a half finished quilt.
"And grandchildren grow up even faster. It seems every time you turn around, they're getting bigger."

"I haven't any grandchildren yet," Kyselen replied wistfully. Or maybe she had, she hadn't heard from Rothsel in a while. The thought was tinged with sadness. "My youngest girl was eyeing a boy before we left Topaz Sea Hold though. By now she might have caught him!" She laughed at that.

"You should write her and ask," Iadell suggested.

Kyselen frowned as she considered that suggestion. It was a good one, and in fact, she wondered why she hadn't thought of it herself. After a moment of thought, she realized that she had in fact thought of it several times. Rothen got so upset whenever she brought it up though.
They always wound up quarreling when she said she wanted to write to Kyselara. She didn't understand why and thinking about it made her head hurt and a knot clench in her stomach, so she just smiled and nodded, "I should, shouldn't I."

"It certainly is the best way to get news from a distant loved one.
And you should keep up with your family, no matter how distant,"
Iadell nodded over her sewing.

This bit of advice made Kyselen think of her estranged husband and son. She did occasionally get a letter from her oldest daughter, but it had been turns since she'd heard from them. She frowned a bit, "Well, sometimes that works better than others."

Iadell glanced up, a small concerned frown briefly crossing her face.
"Yes. Things do happen."

"That they do, that they do," Kyselen sighed as a sense of melancholy filled her, underlayed with a deeper disquiet she quickly shoved away.
"But things also change. Who's to say?"

"For the better, I hope." She smiled at the other woman even as she felt a pang of loss for her husband.

"So do I," Kyselen returned the smile and continued her knitting, memories playing in her mind.
