Dinner Plans

Writers: AmajoS, Mikel
Date Posted: 4th September 2007

Characters: Lynson, Bhervehan
Description: Lynson investigages the prospect of renting a space for his wife's Birthing Day dinner.
Location: Vintner Hall
Date: month 5, day 3 of Turn 4

Lynson shook off the rain as he entered the door of the Tavern. It was early in the day, and raining rather heavily, so the place was mostly empty. A few people who'd stayed overnight were enjoying either a late breakfast or early lunch and some who made a point to let neither time nor weather bar them from drink tending to their mugs. Lynson spotted the Tavern Keeper and headed in the older man's direction.

Bhervehan was idly wiping the spotlessly clean bar. Looking up he saw the Journeyman approaching.

"Lyson. What are you doing out and about on a day like this?

Lynson nodded in greeting. "It's not fit for man or beast, that's for sure!" He laughed as he sat at the bar across from the Tavern Keeper.

"Then that would make you a...?"

"Careful!" Lynson mock-glared at the older man before breaking into laughter again. "I came on important business, if you must know."

"Indeed?"

"Yes, I'm hoping to secure one of those rooms," Lynson pointed toward one of the private nooks set out of the way of the main part of the Tavern.

"Well, sure," the tavern Master said suspiciously. "And I appreciate the business, I am not sure I would count that as important business."

"Important enough for me. It's my wife's birthingday on the eighth and I want to treat her. Will one of them be available for dinner then?"
Lynson asked, leaning forward slightly, resting his elbows on the bar.

"Well, why didn't you say so," Bhervahan said. "I am sure we will have a room for her."

"Good man! How much to hold it?"

"For your wife? I will hold it free. She deserves it just for puttin gup with you."

"Ha!" Lynson scoffed, though he grinned. "I won't argue too much though. You're probably more right than I want to know!" Lynson was glad of the break. He'd expected to have to lay down some marks to secure the room. Now he could splurge a bit more on the food and drink and so on. Maybe even get a second gift.

"So, what does she like?"

"Sweets, of course. She's fond of roast herdbeast, baked fish, those little red tubers, and carrots." Lynson listed off his wife's favorite foods. "Doesn't care much for squash or turnips," he added, trusting the Tavern Keeper's cooks would be able to put something together with that infomation.

"Well," the Tavern Master said, thinking aloud. "I will put Barthella's roast up against any on Pern. I will have her come out so you can plan with her. What does she prefer to drink?"

"Ah, I've a very special bottle of wine I've been saving for the occasion. I'll bring that by earlier that day, if it's alright?"

"Mention that to Bathella," Bhervehan said. "It will effect her choice of meal."

"Of course, of course." Lynson agreed.

Bherevhan extended his hand, "we will see you then, my friend."
