Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 13 of Turn 4
Sh'vair paced in front of the Weyrlingmaster's door, wringing his hands worriedly. **Someone should say something... But I don't know for sure... But if it were true... But is it really your business?** Shards, he hated making difficult decisions.
He almost paled when the Weyrlingmaster Second walked out of the office door. "He can see you now, Sh'vair," the bronzerider said absently as he held the door open with a finger. It was obvious that he had somewhere else to be and was just waiting for the bluerider to walk through out of politeness. The expectant look he fixed on the young man's face made the boy's legs feel almost weak. M'galec terrified him for some reason. "Yes, sir," he whispered, hurrying through the door to escape his gaze, but now he had to face the Weyrlingmaster.
"Sir," he said softly, feeling his voice on the edge of cracking rather embarrassingly, like a fourteen-turn-old.
"Come in, Sh'vair." R'syl called from behind his desk, scanning a report M'galec had just handed him. He set it down as the young bluerider entered, and raised an eyebrow. "Please, have a seat."
The bluerider hesitated for the briefest moment before coming to a decision. He was already there. "Thank you, sir." Sh'vair slipped into the seat offered. Just tell him what he knows, and the Weyrlingmaster could decide for himself. "Well, Sh'vair? What can I do for you?" R'syl asked, leaning back in his chair as he pulled his attention away from the report and turned it to the weyrling.
"Ah, well..." Sh'vair leaned slightly forward, taking a deep breath. "Let me preface by saying I really like Honalyse, sir. I think she's a really nice and friendly girl. And I honestly don't really _know_
anything for sure, just what I've seen and heard."
R'syl had been a father long before he had joined a weyrlingstaff, and knew when someone was rationalizing bad behavior when he heard it. His demeanor changed subtly, leaning forward as he asked neutrally "And what have you seen or heard, Sh'vair?"
"I just have noticed that Honalyse and her Clutchmate, C'nes have been... spending a lot of time together. Leaning close and whispering and the like. I'm not sure, but maybe even holding hands. And... I've heard rumors..." Shards, it could be nothing. But, if it they really were taking it too far...
"What sort of rumors?" R'syl asked, raising his eyebrows in inquiry, his mind racing. It never failed. In every clutch there was always someone... It may be hearsay, but rumors started somewhere.
"Well, its just rumors, but... That she might have been seen taking her clothes off in front of a rider..." Sh'vair cringed even as he said it.
That did it. **Usaeth, could you ask Tibith's rider to come to my office?** His brows knitted in concern as he asked seriously. "Do the rumors say who might have seen her, or who the other rider was?"
"No, just that she took her clothes off. I'm not saying she actually _did_ anything, though," the bluerider said emphatically. After all, rumors could be wrong.
"I understand." R'syl said soothingly. "But you were right to come to me, Sh'vair. Even if they are just rumors, rumors start somewhere, and I need to get to the bottom of this." He stood, walking around the side of the desk. "Was there anything else that you've heard that you think I should know about?"
"No sir, that was it." And shards, he felt bad enough telling him just that!
R'syl nodded. "Then don't worry. I'll look into the matter, and I won't mention your name. And please, if you hear of something like this happening again in the future, don't hesitate to tell me." He added sincerely.
"Yes sir." Sh'vair gave him a small smile, already regretting the trouble he had caused. "May I go now?"
"Of course, Sh'vair. And Sh'vair?" He said softly as the boy stood and started toward the door. "You did the right thing."
"Thank you, sir," the bluerider said as he stood to his feet. He knew the Weyrlingmaster was right, it was the right thing to do. But sometimes the doing the right thing wasn't much fun.
