K'sedel

K'sedel

"Do you know how stupid that was?" asked the Weyrleader. His tone was decptively mild, but anyone who could see his face would know how angry he was. A direct order had been given to stay indoors during the worst of the weather, it had not been worth risking man, beast or dragon.

J'klin was not in a position to argue the stupidity of the act and he knew it. It had been all Nimyth's fault anyways. He had been the one to see the man trapped by the rising water, and _he_ had been the one who had insisted that they save him. Plucking the panicing man up in Nimyth's claws and then depositing him near the Weyr enterance had been easy, fighting the wind sheers down to him had been the hard part.
That was why they had to take refuge in the hatching ground, J'klin didn't want to chance them flying up to their weyr in the wind. Of course that is how they had been found out as well, and how he had ended up in the Weyrleader's wrath. "I realize that it was stupid."

"I do appreciate that you saved a life. But you could have lost yours in the process."

J'klin nodded, more important than his life was that of Nimyth's. "I know. It was a rash decision on our part, one that we've learned from I can promise you."

"Even though your actions saved a life, I can't condone them. I am going to have to take disciplinary action." K'sedel looked the brownrider in the eye, hoping to make sure he understood why that was. "I can't have riders taking things into their own hands at times like this."

Well, so much for staying out of trouble here at River Bluff... "I figured as much, though I wasn't just disobeying for the sake of flying off to have fun. I was doing my duty to save someone."

"I know, and it won't be as harsh as it could be because of that. Just a sevenday of watchduty, at night. Count youself lucky brownrider."

Watch duty wasn't as bad as it could be, and J'klin wondered if K'sedel wasn't just punishing him for show as an example to others. With the flooding, he could have been assigned to haul debris or dig out the muck, or any number of otherwise dirty work. "I count myself lucky that Nimyth didn't strain a wing or otherwise damage himself, and I will take the watch duty without complaint."

"Good, and let me say that I never want to see you in here for something like this again."

"You won't." J'klin assured him.

"You're dismissed brownrider."

J'klin got up and headed towards the door but stopped and turned around. "Sir? That man that we saved... Do you know who he is? I lost track of him after we dropped him off, and I never learned his name?"

"His name is Rejoab, and he's one of the Harbour Master's assistants."

He nodded, somehow feeling that a name to the face made it more real, and worth it. "Thank you sir."
