EFH: A Visit to the Healer

Writers: Emma, Kaysea
Date Posted: 8th June 2007

Characters: Miranek, Fog
Description: Fog visits Healer Miranek about his headaches.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 4, day 16 of Turn 4

He supposed even if he just talked with the Healer about everything that was in
his head, it might help? He'd tried talking to Vaheri and even his father, but
they didn't understand, no one did, not even himself.

He knuckled his head again, the pain had become more severe since he had spoken
to Jesten, but he had tried to keep it from everyone. Things were getting too
.... confusing. There was too much change.

"Next!" The healer called out for his next patient to enter the consulting room.

Fog rose from the chair, and walked into the room. He held his head, knuckling
the side to try and erase the pain. "It hurts." he ground out through clenched
teeth.

"I see," said the healer gesturing to the seat. "Your head aches then?"

Fog nodded, "Has been on and off since I last saw you." He eased himself into a
chair, barely opening his eyes. "The draft isn't working any more." he said,
pulling the small vial from his pocket, and placing it on the table in front of him.

"Has there been anything other than the head aches?" Miranek rose to his feet
and took the vial to check the level of the contents within it. "Any nausea,
vomiting, dizziness at all?"

"No..nothing." Fog said, his hand rubbing hard across his head. "Just the pain
whenever I think. And I can't sleep, for thinking, at night."

"Are you more tired during the day?" Miranek replaced the vial on his desk, and
moved to pick up a tray of instruments. He'd need to examine the man to make
sure it was not physical, but this may have a cause that would require a mind
healer.

"No, well maybe a little, but not much. I...I don't know." his hand knuckled his
head again, confusion clouded his mind. "I don't sleep when on duty." he said
clearly and adamantly.

"Well let me examine you quickly, and we'll see if we can find what is causing
this."

Fog relaxed back on the examination table, as much as he could relax. Watching
as the healer moved about him; once again thoughts buzzed around in his head,
thoughts of the river boat, the new crew; the only bright spot being that Jesten
was still with them.

A face kept appearing unbidden in his mind, eyes watching him. But he hadn't
said anything about that, to anyone. He knew she was watching him all the time,
even when he couldn't see her, she was watching him.

Miranek kept it as quick as he could as he checked the routine part of his
examination.

Fog closed his eyes and seemed to drift off for a moment, but then the face came
to him again and he opened his eyes wide and jumped, startled, to find the
healer bending over him.

"Shhh," it was a comforting sound, or so Miranek hoped. "I'm just about done,
then we can talk about this."

Fog held still, his eyes following the healer again. The pain in his head had
eased, and he felt a little calmer than he had hen he arrived, but then he
hadn't been thinking too hard. It always happened, whenever he thought, when he
tried to remember what it had all been like, before the accident.

Miranek finished what he was doing, and put the instruments down. "The good news
is that I can't find any physical cause for your symptoms."

"That is good? But..." Fog blinked a couple of times, "does that mean there's
something inside?" The idea of another operation scared him. He remembered how
strange he had looked after they stitched him up the last time.

"No, I doubt it. There's nothing to indicate that." The healer returned to his
seat. "I'm going to recommend a different medicine, see if that helps. And I'd
also like to make an appointment with Journeyman Elkub for you just to talk
about things."

"Elkub? I.. have I talked to him before?" Fog asked, sitting up slowly.

"I don't think so, it isn't in your records. But he might be able to teach you
some relaxation techniques to help you deal with the headaches. He's had some
experience with helping people with problems like yours before."

"Oh, okay." Fog moved back to the chair in front of the healers desk. "When
will I see him?" Sitting up again the throbbing started again, but this time
wasn't as intense and he found he could actually concentrate now on what the
healer had to say.

"Tomorrow, he's on duty in the morning, so I'll put you on his list of people to
see."

Fog nodded, "So, I can go now?" he asked, wanting to get back to the boat.

"Yes. Don't worry that Elkub is a mindhealer, he knows what he's doing."

"A mindhealer? Okay, as long as he can heal me, that's all I care about." Fog
shrugged, "So I can go?"

"You can, come and see me again if the headaches recur."

With a nod, Fog turned and walked tot he door. "The mindhealer, he'll help me."
he nodded again, determinedly, and walked out.
