To first dates

Writers: Patrick, Paula
Date Posted: 23rd May 2007

Characters: Faran, Lymria
Description: Faran and Lymria have a date.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 3, day 21 of Turn 4

Faran knocked on Lymria's door. He had to scrounge for a babysitter after his sister left, but he'd found a good friend who was willing to do it for nothing. They both waited outside Lymria's door, Faran fingercombing his hair in his discomfort. Lymria has spent a good candlemark making herself ready. She wanted make an impression Faran. She wasn't happy with the dress, it was hand-down from one the ladies of Amber Hills hold and sooo last turn's. But she had lost everything in that earthquake. Clothes, jewelry, fat pouch of marks that had been her and her son's inheritence. Omagi had been wealthy enough to pamper his young wife with luxury. However, Lymria was satisfied what she had done to her hair( she had tried something new), and in general, thought she looked beautiful. When the knock came, she went to open the door and was surprised how nervous she was. Faran's eyes widened in appreciation when he saw Lymria. "You look, amazing." He said, for once at a loss for words. He whipped out a bunch of early spring flowers from behind his back. "For the lovely lady." He made a flourish of giving them to her. "Why, they are lovely, thank you Faran," Lymria said and accepted the flowers. "And you look handsome yourself," she continued. "Shall we get moving? I have a lot planned for this evening." He ushered his friend in to meet the childeren. "My sister flitted off to the weyr at the last second so I had to find someone else. But Aryn watched my younger siblings for years and is so excited to be watching kids again." Aryn nodded as she crouched down to say hello to Lymria's youngest.

"That's all right," Lymria said. She gave the babysitter few instructions, like when to put them to bed and where to find stuff. "I'm all yours now, " she finally said and firmly closed the door behind them. "Well then." He wrapped his arm around her hip and steered her out the Hold doors. Faran led her down a path toward the river bank. It was a warm spring evening, and the sun lit everything with an amber glow. It was very romantic, perfect for what Faran had in mind.

He pushed aside brush to reveal a clearing with a pincic for two set up on the grass. Half open glowbaskets hung from the branches of trees and Kio hovered over the food, a small glowbasket of his own tied around the bronzes neck. "Here we are." Faran said with a sweep of his arm.

"Oh, this is lovely!" Lymria gasped with surprise. It was a very romantic gesture. "This, its nothing, just a little Harper ingenuity." He helped her to seat herself on the blanket. Kio came down from his perch and demanded they look at his new collar. Faran began to unpack the food and serve them both. "Red or white?" He asked holding up two wine skins.

"Depends what you have for food," Lymria replied, inhaling the sweet scents that came from the basket.
She was enjoying the whole experience. Her first marriage had been arranged by her father, so she never had a change to date anyone. Faran opened the basket and began to pull out the covered food he'd had Saria send over from the weyr with Kio. There had been about three to four different baskets that had to be consolidated. But what Faran found odd was that there had been a few other firelizards hauling the food as well. How had Saria...? It didn't matter.

"Well we have some roast wherry in a light herb sauce.
This," Faran lifted the lid of the next dish. "Is um..." He sniffed the food. "It looks like wild rice fried with fruit and herbs." He layed next to the wherry. One by one he lifted the food out and looked to see what it was. His sister had done him well, the food looked amazing.

"White wine will go well with wherry," Lymria said.
She opened the wine and poured them glasses. "White it is then." Faran deftly poured the good wine into two glasses. He handed one to Lymria. "To first dates." He said with a smile.

"To first dates. You know, this really is my first date ever. My marriage with my late husband was arranged and we barely met before the wedding," Lymria said. Faran nodded as he sipped his wine. "Don't think to much about it. I'm not exactly a ladies man so I'm almost as new as you. We'll just have to slosh through it all together."

"Slosh? You harpers have way with words," Lymria laughed. Her laugh made him feel so funny, so... good. "Well we try." He said with a grin. "Don't try, sell. That's what my father always says,"
Lymria grinned.

"Well he sounds like a very inteligent man." Faran said before taking a bite of wherry. Did his sister knwo how to cook or what? "Did you know my sister made all this food?" he said, waving his empty fork at the spread.

"Really? She's a good cook then," Lymria complimented.

"I'll make sure she knows you approve." He said with a grin. What could be better than this? He had a nice girl, a stable job, and for once it didn't seem as if his emotions could turn on a dime. HE felt like he was on top of the world.
