R'syl squared his shoulder and knocked firmly on the weyrleader's door. He was tired -moving was always nervewracking, but especially so this time.
There had been a herd of weyrlings and former students to see him off, but none of his children had been in the crowd. He had hoped they would at least watch him go, but they had apparently been content with the brief moments he'd taken to catch them and tell him he was being transferred.
"Come!" called out the Weyrleader. The only person he was expecting now was the new Weyrlingmaster, and hopefully, this was him.
"Good day sir." He said courteously as he strode in. He eyed the older man carefully, trying to get a feel for his new weyrleader without being obvious. "My duty to your dragon."
"And mine to yours." K'sedel rose to his feet, extending his hand to the man who still wore the knots of his previous weyr, giving away his identity.
Shaking the offered hand firmly, R'syl decided K'sedel had potential. He knew the man to be older than him, but there was nothing in his manner that suggested he was going to hold something against him at the first meeting. "It's good to be somewhere warm again." R'syl smiled humorlessly.
"I'm looking forward to having a beach nearby again."
"It is nice for rest days," admitted the Weyrleader. "Although my youngest is still too young to appreciate it."
I'm not sure anyone can appreciate a beach unless they've been away from it for a while." R'syl commented. "Or anything else for that matter."
"You may be right there," admitted K'sedel.
R'syl chuckled wearily. "There's nothing to be right about. Just some wisdom of old aunties. But I doubt that there will be much time for beaches just yet. I understand you have a new batch of weyrlings."
"Fairly new, and no doubt there will be more soon enough. Such is the way of life."
"So long as the queens keep me in a job." R'syl said dryly. "I'm not going to complain."
"Just so long as they keep me in my job too."
