"I got your cousin to look after the boys," said M'van as he walked back into the weyr he shared with Kitali. "She was only too happy to take them for a candlemark or so."
"She usually is." Kitali chuckled softly. "She loves them both as if they were her own."
"Someday soon she'll have her own," he said. "I've seen the way she looks at that brownrider, you know the one in the Weyrleader's wing."
"You've not heard her talk about him." Kitali leaned back in her chair and sighed softly. "She moons over him like someone several turns her juniour who's discovered she's got her first crush."
"Does he know?" asked M'van as he shooed Lavender aside to sit down.
The blue flit was a little agitated at the action, chittering angrily at being disturbed from his perch.
"I don't think so. She hasn't told him outright anyway." Lavender wasn't the only one who was in a bad mood. Beryl screeched in a rather unladylike fashion and flitted over to the back of another chair where she perched and chattered. She was quiet enough, however, that Kitali ignored her for the moment. "To be honest, I think she should approach him."
"You're probably right there. She'll not get very far without talking to him, or more." The bluerider smiled at his weyrmate. Despite a slow beginning, the two of them were truly solid now.
Lavender drew closer to Beryl, but the green snapped at him and the blue flittered away and crouched watching her. Kitali glanced at them for a just a moment, then returned her attention to M'van. "I think they're a good match, though, should she ever get her courage to go to him."
"I do too," he said. "And if he wants a family, well she's just dying to be a mother." As he spoke, Lavender drew back from the green, watching her. "Kitali," he said. "Look at Beryl."
"She certainly loves children." Kitali commented as she turned around.
The harper didn't get a chance to really look at her firelizard for as soon as she turned, the green sqwaked and went /between/. Kitali sat there a moment, then muttered a soft, "Oh."
Lavender flashed him a quick picture of the green calling to other flits in the weyr, before she took off over the weyrbowl.
"She's rising," said M'van.
"Yes." Kitali cocked her head to the side, a smile flitting over her lips. "I guess that explains why she's been so finicky and fussy lately."
"Lavender's chasing her." The bluerider moved closer to his weyrmate.
"Maybe he'll catch her?"
"That would be nice." Kitali twined her fingers with M'van's.
"Interesting. I wonder what it would be like..."
"Maybe we'll find out," he said. Though the feelings would not be anywhere near as intense as if it were Kiloth chasing, they often could cause some people to feel more amorous than normal. Others were able to virtually completely dismiss the feelings, but if you were with your weyrmate....
"That would be interesting." Kitali couldn't supress a giggle. "I guess Beryl has good timing."
"Like you?" he teased gently. He could sense Lavender becoming more involved in the chase, the blue was sending single minded images of Beryl. "Lavender is with her."
"Of course, I always have impeccable timing." Kitali grinned. "Trying his best, eh?"
"Only the best will ever do for him." M'van returned her grin. "Just like with me."
"Is that so?" Kitali leaned over and kissed him. "You're sweet. Is this what it's like with your dragon?"
He hesitated a moment, trying to think of the words to describe it.
"When Kiloth chases, well it's like I become a part of him, the only thing that matters is what he wants. With Lavender, it's not so intense, but still..." He leaned over to give her a kiss, "Still can be very pleasant, if you want it to be."
"I knew it wasn't quite so much, but I was curious as to how alike they were." Kitali smiled and stroked her weyrmate's cheek. "I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that."
"I wouldn't either." With those words, he took her in his arms and kissed her, gently at first, then with a little more passion as he felt Lavender's emotional burst of joy and pride at catching the green.
